This complex of government offices is quite interesting. It housed the 100s of workers that worked for the local governor.

There are so many different buildings to visit in Pingyao, it is a bit difficult to choose if you are pressed for time. This one and Weishengchang are the best sites - in case you need to prioritize.

Worth a visit and you can also go up the Tower that looks over the street. Like all these old buildings, it’s worth exploring every doorway and alley, you never know what you will find. They were doing a play while we were there - it was a Saturday

This site is located within the city walls of Pingyao and is easily accessible by foot or you can hire an electric cart to take you there. The oldest building dates back to 1346AD and the large site was restored when the government withdrew in 1998. There are a number of buildings that were to do with the administration of the law and include sleeping quarters and a prison. The prison graphically displays a number of punishments that a number of people found disturbing. However, the site is well laid out and the buildings and garden lend a peaceful and relaxed feeling and you will learn something of the administration of the law in ancient times. Definitely worth a visit.

At 26000 m2,this covers a relatively large area. There are performances but government function @ 11 am. Justice is meted out perfunctorily. Civil servants include court torturers. Allow at least 30 mins.

This is one of must sees in Pingyao, gives you a good flavor of what an ancient city government looks like. They also have displays on clothings of different level of government officials based on their hierarchy. They also have daily court skit playing on how the city mayor reviews/judges the case, it's either 9am or 10am in the morning.

This visit is very interesting as you can see how justice was meted out in the old days. Finally you get to see who protected the magistrate - the beautiful fox fairy.

Well worth a look round with a guide. See the administrative buildings, the jail and the ghoulish exhibitions of restraint, torture and death. See the governor's residence and temples. The performance is a short and humorous reenactment of a trial before the governor- well worth seeing and a rest from walking.

I am a sucker for looking at old prison conditions. This is only a small part of this attraction, but worth a look. I particularly enjoyed the display of torture tools they show you. Much of the rest is looking at offices, which is okay.

The complex is big and and it gives one a very good view of how the government ruled in ancient times. Everything is logical situated. I partically enjoyed the public bathrooms and the squares, where you can sit and relax a bit.
