Never again. I’m a local and over the last few years have been here 3 times. Always a struggle to have good service here. Today was the straw that broke the camels back. Website says no appointments necessary for less than 6. We were a group of 4 who were told we needed reservations. It was not busy and the person behind the bar was rude in terms of the fact we didn’t have a reservation. I simply cannot recommend this winery as pretty as it is. We went on to Kunde, VJB, and Wellington with no issues!!

We have visited Chateau to discover the place in our first trip to Sonoma Valley. We were expecting nice, welcoming service but instead found not a good atmosphere and when we had issue with paying with European card, the atmosphere became a bit hostile and unfriendly. In addition, price for a bottle of red wines are exaggerated compared to smaller wine makers we discover later. It has been a disappointment to us, unfortunately. I would not recommend this place for a tasting.

Our first visit. We were happy to see T-Bo (last time at Roth). Very knowledgeable and personable. We always learn something. Wines were wonderful. Yes, it's pricey. But the historical property, current caliber of the wines, service, and unbeatable setting - a lovely afternoon experience.

Beautiful setting, very nice wines, and overpriced. If you want to pay $45 to taste what amounts to less than one glass of wine, you’ll be delighted. Have had a wonderful experience there before-ended up buying a case. But c’mon - you’ve driven me away with your stinginess.

One of my favorite Sonoma wineries... purchased last in 2002 by Foley Family Wineries, the 2 tasting rooms and surrounding gardens have been nicely updated. Tasty wines, friendly staff.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable time, and don't understand all the negative reviews. Beautiful setting, good wine, and a knowledgable, friendly host! We showed up a 1/2 hour early, and had no problem getting seated. I understand the winery changed hands recently, maybe that had something to do with it??

Terrible experience! Their running water water was down, so we found out halfway through our visit that their was no fresh water or restrooms available! We wanted to leave but were charged for the full experience regardless. Took 20 minutes from when we sat down to get service. Absolutely would avoid!

This was our first visit to Chateau St. Jean, and I was looking forward to the reserve tasting more than any other tasting I had booked over our Sonoma weekend.

I was under the impression that the winery was 21 and over. Upon entering the reserve tasting area, I saw a kid. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids. I have 2 of my own… but I don’t want them around when I’m wine tasting, which is why I opted for a babysitter back home. Strike 1.

The same family with the kid had a dog who was off leash and pooping while I was trying to enjoy my flight. Same thing: love dogs. Have one of my own back home. However, I put him in a boarding facility so that I may enjoy my weekend. Strike 2.

We had the reserve flight which was tragically average. I didn’t find anything special about the offerings. Perhaps my tasting was influenced by the terribly constipated dog trying to do his thing in front of me.

The only wine that left a good impression was their Reserve Malbec. Way too much money to spend on a tasting for just average wine. Strike 3.

Spend your time and money elsewhere. I was blown away by Lasseter and Hanzell— go there instead.

The stars are for the absolutely beautiful setting this winery has. Truly a wonderful setting. The lack of stars is because of the absolute lack of service. Yesterday we confirmed we didn’t need reservations for tasting, and as members expected to not have a problem. Yet when we arrived and asked about tasting we were told we needed reservations and they would do what they could. We sat at a table waiting while the other three tables were given wine tastings. When I asked for the wifi password from a staff member I was told I would need to wait til our server came to help us. The problem is the server never came. We watched the one server stand waiting to help the three tasting parties they had (total of less than 10 people) we went inside where another staff member simply stood at the bar. No one helped us, we ended up leaving. After driving 30 minutes to get there what a huge disappointment. I would have completely understood if they were swamped but they were not. Even when we were greeted at the parking lot and asked if we had a reservation and said no they said no problem. This was not the case. Do not recommend.

Stopped by as we drove through the area. As we did not have a reservation, our options were limited (i.e., purchase a glass of wine to enjoy indoors or on the patio). The grounds and buildings are stunning however I did not find the atmosphere as welcoming as other wineries we visited. The glasses of chardonnay we purchased were good.
