Good place to learn about the history of Julian, especially as it relates to it's gold mining beginnings. Friendly staff and well done tours. They give you a short tutorial on how to pan for gold and then let you try your hand at it....More

A couple of the women who had dresses on went up last because the small "stairs" were more like a latter with about 20 steps up. Not wheelchair accessible, but not at all strenuous either.

Sorry, just seeing this question. It’s a little chilly in Feb, of course depending on the day. I am not sure if they are open Year-round, I would suggest calling. They are super friendly and helpful :)
