Our guide was very informative and a little quirky. Added some humor. He was very knowledgeable about the mine and mining in general. The tour lasted well over an hour. We were surprised how much we enjoyed it. Really tall folks will need to duck down frequently. Price is only $10 for adults.

Went several times, with kids and various guests. Must do if you are in Julian. Better, much more authentic than the other mine here. Walk through the actual mine, very interesting guide, and gold wash activity :)

This was a fun tour and only $10 per person. Do you want to pan for gold? Walk in a dark mining cave and see gold in them thar hills? Learn a little about explosives? Get a guided tour by a REAL local of Julian? This is the tour for you!! Great way to spend about an hour visiting Julian... More

For only $10 per person, you get an hour-long tour. After an initial history of the Julian area with respect to its roots back in 1870 and gold mining , you take a short walk to see a 5-stamp mill and are given an explanation as to how gold was recovered from the ore that came out of the mine.... Very cool mine visit. Get up close and personal in a gold mine, where you'll learn about the history of mining in Julian and get the day in the life of a real gold miner. Fascinating, great and laid back tour!

If you're in the area this is totally worth the stop. You get to see the rock crushers, pan for gold, and then go through the actual mine. I would not suggest this tour if you are claustrophobic or don't like the dark. There is a brief period where they turn the lights out in the mine so you can... More

An opportunity to go into an actual gold mine and experience on a limited level what it may have been like for the miners. The mine is still owned by the family that ran the mine and the tour guide had some interesting tales. This was a hard rock mine so the shafts were excavated by hand, using picks, drills... More

An incredible trip back in time. The tour takes you through long mining tunnels, educating you on what incredible lengths people would go seeking gold - up close and in the mine. The history is interesting, the technology incredible. It is a fun excursion just a few blocks from downtown Julian. We had several young kids on our tour and... More

It is pretty awesome that the original family still owns and operates this mine as an attraction for history buffs and tourists alike. It is a unique experience that takes you into the lives of the miners in the 1890's and the processes that culminated as the gold rush. Our guide, Robert, a local who has worked there over the... Along with one other couple ( strangers) we took a very informative, guided tour of the mine but more important our guide created a complete picture of what gold mining in Julian was like. A great way to learn the history of the town and about gold mining. I highly recommend this tour.
