If you are a history buff, especially trains, you will love Railtown. The volunteers love to answer questions on railroad history. If they don't know the answer, they will find it. The roundhouse is full of history. They make and repair as many train parts as they can, the shop is right there. It is awesome. If the pulley room... More

And even got a short ride behind the number 3 engine. Loved the roundhouse, the smithy's palace and all of the great tools that were custom made for the jobs.

We had a couple of hours to spare before an evening wedding in Sonora, and we had our pet dog with us. Yosemite was too long a drive, so what else could we do? Well, this was a nice surprise...a pet-friendly, California State Park attraction where you can ride on a historic 1890's steam locomotive with your pet, and get... More

Really fun and definitely worth a trip. When we were there they had free tours leaving at 11. Worthwhile. Great for kids. Stagecoach rides were great.

Hats off to the team, and many volunteers that make this place so magical. THANK YOU. We arrived on a Saturday morning, and were treated with a tour hosted by Joe to the round house to watch the No 3 engine getting ready for the day, whilst our son did the junior ranger program with another Joe. Both were excellent!... More

Came here on a Wednesday, unfortunately we weren't able to take a train rides, they only do them on the weekends, my mistake for not doing better research. Did the self guided tour. It looked like the guided tour would be a lot more informative and interactive. Overall very cool and if you're into trains I would recommend it.

Great informative visit. This place is free entry but for $5 per adult you get a guided tour up close to the trains and can get into them. Tom our guide was such a lovely man giving us so much information and even after the tour had finished he spent his lunch break talking to us. The whole place is... More

Last Monday our group of 12 "Regulators" (aka Cowboys) took a road trip to Jamestown to visit the Railtown 1897 State Park. After having a great lunch in Jamestown, we had reserved a private tour and Tom, our Guide, welcomed us and was ready to take us on a trip through the Old West railroad style. Our goal was to... My husband and I drove to Jamestown. We got there jus in time to ride the train. It was fun riding in it and we enjoyed the views. My daughter and son-in-law went there to have pictures taken for their engagement. They were absolutely beautiful.

Probably good with small kids, it a neat experience to ride the rails pulled by a steam trains. Local tip: Go here on the weekend as they run the steam trains on Saturday. Nothing like riding on a steam train to take you back.
