What a relaxing breath of fresh air from the fast-paced LA/Orange County life. Many thanks to volunteer Doug, who was extremely knowledgeable and kind and helped my husband find a whole bunch of new birds. I meanwhile enjoyed their nice Audubon store and relaxed at their picnic tables. Very calming!

This is a water treatment plant that has become a great birding sight, especially in the spring. A wide variety of birds, in their breeding plumage, can be easily viewed and photographed in a setting that easily navigable, with flat paths that surround a number of ponds. Bring your binoculars and camera.

So peaceful to walk along the groomed trail and look for birds! The best time for sightings is early AM and late afternoon. I live near the sanctuary and can walk there. There are multiple nesting heron pairs in the local trees and the spring is filled with birdsong in the nearby neighborhoods.

When I went here I was able to get many amazing pictures of many different water birds as well as some ospreys and a Merlin falcon. I also got some pictures of some Anna’s Hummingbirds.

Timing and luck is everything here if you're a birder. Which may be a small matter if you're a local, but if you've traveled a great distance, I don't know if coming here would be worth it. Sometimes the place is dead, with very little presence of birds and/or activity. Sometimes you'll see some cool stuff (e.g., osprey flying with... More

I recently enjoyed a relaxing and beautiful walk around the 300-acre San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. The day was just right: not too warm, and not too cold, with patchy sunshine and a slight breeze. If you want to sit down, there are plenty of benches along the trail. Parking was free (turn onto Riparian View to enter into the Wildlife... More

I live nearby and drive by all the time. I've also walked through. Very peaceful with lots of natural trails, wildlife, just nice in the middle of a city.

This is a pleasant surprise, right near UCI. It is a great walk with plenty of benches to sit and watch the birds or just read a book. Anyone that wants to take a break I would truly recommend taking a moment to check it out. If you have more time, I would recommend you go inside the Center. I... More

Quiet, peaceful, the grounds are well kept, the scenery is nice, theres all different types of birds, insects, some mammals, there is a book store on the premises and the lady who works there (Ive been there doses of time, she's the only one I have seen working) is extremely nice, and knowledgeable, I enjoy coming here.
