Description:

Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water reservoir built, owned and operated...

Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water reservoir built, owned and operated by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. This reservoir is an important component to providing water for 18 million Southern Californians, and is a critical lifeline in times of drought.

To protect this resource, no body contact with the water is permitted. However, the Diamond Valley Aquatic Center, located near the entrance to the lake, allows for plenty of fun in the water. The Diamond Valley Visitor Center and the Western Science Center, which houses 1 million paleo and archaeo artifacts found during the construction of the Lake, are also located at the entrance to Diamond Valley Lake.

The Lake and the surrounding hills have also become known for the spectacular wildflower blooms each spring, and are popular among hikers. Non-motorized bicycles are also permitted on the Lake View Trail, and equestrians can enjoy the North Hills Trail.

This lake is really beautiful with many activities to do. My husband and I have gone for a bike ride around the lake and that was nice. There are picnic benches and port-a-potties on the route if needed. Very relaxing!

What can you say about a HUGE man made lake that is designed to supply Southern California with much needed water all by gravity-flow. The water therefore is pristine. They have a very cool exhibit that shows off some of their "finds" as they were digging including a very cool prehistoric skull ... Pretty neat.

Loved it. Was there on a Saturday for high school bulldog cross country meet and then again on Sunday for 14 and under. My kids did great for there first time and no real practice. Trees are still small so not a lot of shade. Take umbrellas or canopies.

I guess I miss the point. A giant no body contact lake seems silly. Has one of the most advance cleaning systems. There should be water sking

Travelled from Palm Springs to DVL for the half marathon event. The event is very well done and the drive to DVL is quite nice. The lake itself is beautiful although I'm not sure what someone would do here without a boat. I was there for the race, of course, and it was a challenging enough course over winding, gravel,... Hard to believe that this lake was man made. You get a perspective of how the water levels have dropped over the years as you can see the ring marks left by previous.

Although everything from license to access to boat rental add considerable cost to the overall experience, Diamond Valley Lake is great for Bass fishing. Once on the lake, there are endless opportunities to hook up on a lunker. During the spawn you can find male bass in the shallows protecting nests. Get yourself a nice pair of polarized glasses and... More
