My family went to Don Castro for a hike. There was "no parking fee" due to Easter Sunday. The parking lot was half full and it's not that crowded. The man made swimming area is dry, close to the public. We hiked the Ridge Top trail. The hike is really easy and only took us about 45 minutes around the loop. Along the way we saw people fishing for trout and carp. There are a lot of shaded area. We plan to go back again for fishing and picnic.

Great place for families year round. Busy in the summer but a swimming area is available. Dogs must be on a leash. No alcohol without a permit. Great for a hike or fishing.

Very nice place to walk and enjoy nature, anytime of year. Great views of the Hayward Hills. Sometimes you can deer, rabbits, various birds, etc. There is a pool there also but was closed for season when I went. Saw people fishing down there and also riding horses. Closer to Castro Valley than to downtown Hayward. Not as many people walking as at Lake Chabot, so fairly quiet spot. Saw dogs down there even though it says no dogs, I believe.

You'll feel far away from the city life within the park. Wooded picnic areas and easy trails, with connections to regional trails. Beautiful swim lagoon during the summer.

Part of the enormous green spaces around the hills of the East Bay, this place brings great recreation to the good folks of the suburbs, and elsewhere! Lots to do here. Come and enjoy the nature.

Worth the $5 parking fee for a pleasant place to grill and have a picnic. Lots of mature shade trees, though the ground is uneven if anyone in your party has difficulty walking.
We didn't swim, but during the season, they have a what looks like a clean, protected area for swimming.

Just had our family reunion here in the Siesta location. Holds 100 max. Very close to the swim area. Clean park, had a great time. They have a bathroom located in the swim area but only 1 Porta-Potty by the Siesta area. Maybe they could put one more. Other than that it's a great place.

Wonderful park ful of cultural history. It is rocommended that you stop by Hayward Historical Museum first and get your bearings. Get a good appreciation for Don Castro and his legend. Did he really just disappear or is his whole lineage in Chile as some believe? Discuss it while you are munching on Val's Burgers down the street...
