Beautiful place to relax and have a picnic

My Mom use to live in Gualala and we would go here to the River to picnic and just hang out for the day. Very clean place off the beaten path.

Water levels were rather low at the access point of Gualala River Redwood Campground, but the temperature was perfect for wading and stream health seemed well, indicated by an abundance of amphibious life such as the numerous salamanders spotted, down woody debris and significant structure variation observed in the sinuous section we were. Gorgeous place! Best, ~S

The Adventure Rental man is set up right at the river's edge, so it is convenient to rent, which we did. However, the minimum cost for one kayak is $40 for up to 2 hours. (I'm used to renting elsewhere for one hour for $15, so it seemed steep to me.) He also charges the same for 2 people, whether... More

Since the river is so low we had to hike down to the river. At the south end of town there is a large parking area on the east side of Hwy 1. There is a trail to the river. Part of it is are steep, slippery and muddy. But when you get to the river it is beautiful. When... More

For $150 my wife, two kids12 and under, and I rented solo kayaks from Adventure Rents (707) 884-4386. They operate only during summer when the Gualala River is calm and flat. We made a reservation a day ahead. We arrived on the north side of the river at the gate just after crossing over the Highway 1 bridge. We parked,... More

I love the relaxing feel of this river. I have never been on it, but driving by is nice and calming.

Gualala is a small, but lovely town - not to be missed. It has quaint shops, excellent restaurants - but be warned - little if no cell service.

I passed the Gualala River which is partly in Sonoma and partly in Mendocino County several times coming from Sea Ranch to go to the supermarket called Surf which is a good one. This River is a good one to Kayak. I wanted to go with my California friend but we did not have enough time. Hopefully next time I... More

While staying at Sea Ranch, our small group of 3 ventured into town to kayak on the Gualala River. It's beautiful and i'm sure that if there had been any rain in the recent past, the river would have been a bit more fun. As it was, it was a great first kayaking adventure for my son since there was... More

We accessed a dirt road from the highway where they rent kayaks. It was a nice spot to let the dogs out and go for a swim! It is pretty windy there and a bit chilly for shorts and a t-shirt the day we were there. We had them at Anchor Bay the two days before but my older girl... More
