My husband and I kayaked Gold Lake almost the entire lake one day and swam. Careful it can get windy in the afternoon there. Another day we hiked about 6 miles round trip to Long Lake from Graeagle Lodge a very long hard uphill hike and then we swam but nice to arrive back as we took the long way... More

We departed from Round Lake (near Gold Lake Lodge) for a 4.5 hour hike at a leisure pace. We saw Lake Veronica, Gold Lake, Silver Lake, Cub Lake, Little Bear and Big Bear lakes. We even dove in the pristine and clear lakes, and dropped at several stops. This is GOD's country!

Lots of swimmable lakes in this area. We tried Salmon, Long and Gold Lakes on this trip. Salmon was the boys' favorite and the had the warmest water. I liked Gold Lake since we had more privacy there and the dogs didn't have to be watched every minute to keep them out of other people's picnics.

We have lived near the Lakes Basin and have been exploring in the area for 35 years. This area is like our back yard. We have hiked here at every season, even skiing in during the winter and in early spring. There is something for everyone here... lakes right near the road for car camping and picnicking, short hikes to... More

Not sure if I even want to post because one of the best things about this glorious place is that it is uncrowded. Simply wonderful hikes to lakes, streams, mountain tops and meadows. Long hikes, short strolls.... they are all fantastic.

So beautiful with lots of options for fishing, hiking plus great restaurants nearby. We always stay at High Country Inn and rent a fishing boat at Sardine Lake.

We hiked the trail around the loop from Big Bear Lake, past Little Bear, Cub, Silver and Round Lakes. Views of other lakes from the top. Absolutely beautiful. You can swim although water is a tad cold. There is some rack scrambling which is fun. If you enjoy quiet, clear peaceful lakes this is the perfect hike.

My wife & I had a great hike in the Lakes Basin on the Bear Lakes Loop Trail that starts & ends @ Gold Lake Lodge. 6 alpine lakes in 4.7 miles = WOW! hike in the counter-clockwise direction if you want to see most of the lakes earlier in the hike (great when you have kids) or hike clockwise...
