The ride was fairly short with a few problems along the way. The microphone system kept shutting down.

Just the sound of the approaching train was enough! Round the corner it appeared whistling, snorting and puffing clouds of steam. After watching the engine shunt to connect to the other end of the train, we clambered aboard into open carriages. The forest is magnificent and not lessened by the pouring rain. Those sitting on the sides were drenched. Regardless... More

First activity of the Yosemite trip. One hour ride through forest. Open carts so dress warm during winter. Good photo ops.

We wanted to make some great memories for some of our grandsons so we took them on the Moonlight Special in October. We all learned interesting information from the gentleman who helped them pan for gold. Then we enjoyed the yummy dinner and the unique train ride. The campfire experience was really a highlight--the musicians were engaging and entertaining. We... More

We thought we had missed the chance to go on this steam Railway as we had to leave at lunchtime.we were delighted to find that Josh complete with his red suspenders was more than happy to turn out in the little engine.it was very exciting. We went quite fast as he turned up the speed.it was quite bumpy but exciting... More

Not made to feel welcome, confusing directions (orders) given by staff, with one person saying yes and the other no. Only after a few photos, but when walking up the side of the railway well clear of the tracks, all we got was hand signals from a non-communicative local. Not made to feel welcome, which is a shame for what... More

This is very unique experience to be able to ride a historic train through a forest. Located right off Highway 41 in Fish Camp. Very close to the city of Oakhurst. The ride lasts about an hour with a brief stop halfway through this round trip.

We arrived at 9.30 am for the steam train ride to start at 10.00 am. They have a gift shop, museum, and a book store to browse in while waiting! We lined up in front different cars and then began boarding. They took us on the back roads and explained about the different trees. The trees are so tall their... More

Stopped here on our way home from Yosemite. So worth it! We rode the steam engine at 11am and the kids (ages 8, 6, and 4) had a blast. There are covered and open air coaches - bring a sun hat! My husband and I enjoyed the scenery and the history of the area. Randy was a great conductor/tour guide... More

Went last night for the final ride of the season. Great dinner. There is a museum with old train artifacts. There is a 20 minute ride into the woods while they tell you all about the different types of trees, the logging and railroad history. A the stop off there is a 30 minute campfire sing along where everyone has... More
