I confess I have a love affair with Ferndale. For me this town is magic. Why I have never stopped in to the museum I just don't know. This is one of the better small town museums, the amount and quality of the displays, the cleanliness, the ladies who run it, just everything. The victorian artifacts were expected, the earthquake... Small town museum, good way to waist a hour or so and learn a bit of history about the area. The gentalmen that runs it was very nice and knowledgeable. We got there right when it opened on a Friday and that's when the seismograph paper is changed, that was cool to watch and it happens weekly at the same... More

We spent 90 minutes wandering thru the museum. Both docents there were well informed and seemed to enjoy sharing the history of their town - old telephone switchboards, a still- functioning seismograph, farm tools, redwood saws and a six by twelve foot, three inch thick slab of beautiful heart redwood! Gorgeous. Cost? $1!

Well worth the paltry entry fee. Proprietor is very friendly, knowledgeable, and conversational. Interesting and well designed displays throughout. Try to visit when the blacksmith is working. Great family diversion. Small place but it still took a couple few hours to see it all.

You can tell the town takes a lot of pride in this museum. You can really learn about the people and the history of Ferndale. We spent about an hour in there. Definitely worth a stop. A small donation is requested.

this adorable little museum is a must when you visit Victorian Ferndale. Check out the photos of the worlds largest birthday cake (yes, Ferndale) see the working seismograph that records earthquakes as far away as Chile, and yes, all of the little and sometimes devastating earthquakes in the region, try your skill at identifying the kitchen implements in the display... Enjoyed seeing some of the artifacts collected over the years that recreated historic Ferndale. The farm implements and blacksmith shop were very interesting to me.

We got to Ferndale at 7 pm. We thought everything would be closed. We did a lap around town from Main Street down to a backstreet to a church and back to main. There we saw a sign showing the museum times with a hand written sign saying open tonight until 9 pm. Cool! They told us they just started... More

This is a nice, small museum highlighting Ferndale's history. The curator let me in and gave me a tour even though the museum was not open. I lived in Ferndale for ten years as a child so this was a trip through my past. The curator's father ran a dairy farm next to my grandfather's dairy farm on the banks... More
