Coming into Eureka from the south end we stopped to see this little bit of history and use the rest room after touring Fortuna. A short walk will let you stretch your legs, see a beautiful view of Humboldt Bay and get some fresh air...More

This was super close to our hotel. We had a great time walking to each room. It is worth the time and we enjoyed reading about the town at the time. Also has some information on logging and trains.

Every fort deserves a visit and this one has a lot to offer. The fort was placed on pristine elevated grounds which provided an excellent observation point of the Humboldt bay area. There are several buildings to walk through and exhibits to study. On the...More

This is a very easy attraction to access from town. Fort Humboldt was once commanded by Ulysis Grant. There's actually two attractions at Fort Humboldt. The Fort, and a logging museum which is incredible in it's own right.

It is not way up on the list a great state parks but I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about local history. It is a great place to learn more about the history of the local logging industry.

We traveled through the park in June. While driving through, we encountered a huge herd of elk. They didn't care that I was 10 feet away snapping photos of their grazing. Cool!

Historical site worth stopping to see. It's free. The most informative items were the signs throughout the fort that you could read. There are 2 original buildings on the site and you can go in some days, but not really much to see in there....More

Covers the uses of the fort, the remaining buildings are very interesting to visit and good collection of historical logging equipment. Can't comment on the museum itself as it was closed when we visited. If you are in the area and have an hour to...More
