Downieville is a quaint town with a couple of great swimming holes - one right in town where the rivers come together and the other just up 49 after you pass through town toward Sierra City.

We had a very nice drive from Reno through Tahoe National Forest to Sacramento area. The trees were beautiful with the snow. People were building snow men.
Tahoe National Forest is an area of 1362 square miles.
one of my all time favorite towns, charming, quaint, and so beautiful. I visit quite often and the restarants and bars are friendly and nice, also the motels are affordable and clean, I will always come back.
