We made a day trip on a Sunday in August. Weather was perfect. We live in Dana Point and the ferry schedule from this port is a bit limited. Many more choices departing from Newport and Long Beach. As a result, advanced planning is necessary....More

The boat itself was roomy inside and outside. There was a minimal service bar for breakfast, coffee, and juice. Not sure if there was alcohol, but I doubt it. The crew was very re-assuring to the crowd and thoughtfully went through the safety measures needed...More

The Catalina Express is a most beautiful ride over to Avalon...and then the pods of dolphins showed up! How thrilling to see this amazing sight. Our Captain spotted them first and shared the info so all passengers could see the dolphins in action...awesome!

We experienced no motion sickness on the vessel, so that was great. The boat is clean, and you have a choice of riding on a very tiny upper deck or in the cabin, which is air conditioned. After the boat takes off, you can order...More

Amazing service, really take care of people whom ride with them. If I could give more stars I would highly recommended to everyone. People whom work at the Dana Warf are some of the nicest people I have ever meet best experience.

I called the week before to check on availability of a midweek one day trip, leaving in the early AM and returning early PM. Even thought it was high season, the rep assured me that if you book 24 hours in advance I should be...More

Called late (night before) as website indicated a call was necessary. Got a little later trip to Avalon than we wanted. Drive to terminal, across Long Beach port was amazing in itself! Took a moment to find the entrance to the ticket office; but when...More

I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth a crossing the Express delivers. We took the bigger catamaran and it was a very pleasant ride coming and going. Terminals were clean and ticketing was super efficient. Make sure to make a reservation as seats sell out.

Because they do NOT offer Groupon's or other savings, the class of passengers and the crew is definitely above average. A less crowded trip than the Catalina Flyer, out of New port of Long Beach

3rd trip to Catalina, maybe our last. Check in a mess, requiring standing in line an hour or more; parking worse, 2-3 miles away. Back to find car covered in bird poop & leaves. Shuttle provided initially, none on return. Ferry ride good but other...More

I'm thinking you are asking about Dana Point before embarkation. There are a few restaurants at the marina, and an excellent outdoor cafe for bagel/egg sandwiches or oatmeal and coffee/juice/smoothies. We enjoy breakfast at... More

Which Catalina Express are you taking? Parking is convenient from Dana Point but limited, San Pedro and Long Beach both have parking and probably about that price

I have had good success with Super Shuttle, although I have not used them to San Diego. They have ExecuCar that doesn't make additional stops to pick-up passengers. Try them
