It's small so less crowded, but still a nice way to see the ocean and the coastal line. The most amazing thing is the old trees on the hill, which are awesome backdrop for pictures. It is easy to find a parking spot too.

I you're ever driving on HWY 1 and in need to take a break and hang out on the beach or see a quick view of the Pacific Ocean, stop into Thornton Beach! If you're driving south on 1 from SF it will be to your right side, if you're coming from 280 you exit John Daly, make a left... More

Just a few minutes south of the border of San Francisco, you will find Thornton Beach Vista and from there the Thornton Beach State Park. The little parking lot at the vista point is easily accessible from Skyline Boulevard. I walked to the edge of the pedestrian vista point in chilly Peninsula wind and fog only to be rewarded with... Read about this on yelp so I gave it a try. To be honest, it’s not worth the effort to climb up/down from the parking area at the end of John Daly Blvd. I’d use Fort Funston next time. It took me a couple attempts to figure out how to get down to the beach from the parking area. I... More

The park is Daly City. I enjoyed walking the short path to look over the bluff area to Thorton Beach State Park. There are informational signs along the path that describes the coming of the railroad, the great earthquake of 1906, and a fun sign that says "If it's summer, bring a sweater".
