Can't believe that they charged so much to visit this place. I could feel the sadness that remains, regardless of their "version" of what actually happened. Can't believe this man was made a saint. There is an opportunity to tell the truth but apparently the Catholic Church wants to maintain the myth of who and what he was. The gardens... More

This was our reason for coming to Carmel. It was a Sunday and there was mass being held. The admission was free--only asked for a donation. The whole mission is beautiful and well preserved. The video was very informative, the museums were absolutely wonderful. The grounds are lush, vibrant, and colourful--just a joy to stroll through. The cemetery has remains... More

If you are one that travels to all the California Missions..this one cannot be missed. Well preserved grounds, church, sanctuary and cemetery. Great for history buffs..doesn't inundate, only gives great overview. The church is a functioning relic..great to participate in mass. Cemetery has remains of historic families, and tribute to Native Americans. This Mission holds site of final resting place... More

The various missions along the Mission Trail ae always interesting to visit. Captures and important part of social history for Indians and the arriving Europeans. This Mission more than others that I have visited understates the relationship between the indigenous people and the purpose of the Mission. Gives scant attention to the historic and difficult issues resulting from the contact.... More

A little out of the way from downtown Carmel. Historical architecture and picturesque grounds. Fee to visit the mission.

We have visited a lot of church's but the Carmel Mission had a certain warmth about it. Nicely laid out and certainly worth an hour of your time. A film in the memorial room will provide you with some history. A small cemetery but well groomed. Decent gift shop with good quality items.

This is a must-see experience. You think you are walking through a well-preserved early California mission and you feel like the historic walls are speaking to you of all that they witnessed. Then you come across the "before" photos and you realize that 100 years earlier this was just a pile of rubble in a wasteland. The restoration work that... More

Really besides the religious feeling it isn't particularly interesting. AND I wasnt so happy about reading how they Native Americans were marginalized...New converts got to do hard labor....Shameful

An authentically restored Franciscan mission, Carmel Mission has four galleries that provide the history of the Monterey Peninsula and the Missions of California. The courtyard and gardens of this working mission are very peaceful & quite lovely. Docent led tours are available and admission is $6.50 (adult).
