Driving down to this spot you wouldn't think you'll get to a large beach spot like we found. The road leading to it is narrow, residential and hilly. If I wasn't looking at my GPS map, I would have never guessed that it is a beach access. And what a wonderful beach it was. On the left side, the river... More

This is a beach area that underwent some improvements in a recent years. Parking remains small, but waterline moved farther away. You will need to walk on the sand may be 1/4 mile (or less) before reaching water.

A lovely state beach park popular with locals and tourists. This beach is not recommended for swimming, rip tide currents can be dangerous here. The park sits along the central coast bird trail, so bird life is in abundance. We've visited many times and park is popular with paddlers and kayakers.

Carmel River State Beach has a small parking lot at the end of Carmelo St. Once there you can enjoy a vast beach that stretches all the way to Pt. Lobos. Most people hang out close to the parking lot and take in the views. The north end also has a stairway, if you park on the street on that... More

Loved this beach. White sand and clean. Beautiful views around. Rolling waves for surfers or good for paddling in. Nice to just lie back and enjoy the view.

This beach is a beautiful one with a large expanse of white sand, located next to an estuary with a lot of birds and fish to see. Dolphins and orcas can usually be seen out in the bay, along with various whales, seals, and sea lions, depending on the time of year. Note that like other beaches in the area,... More

Carmel River beach is a gorgeous example of a specialized ecosytem that is becoming more rare in California. It is also a beuatiful swath of beach with fantastic views up towards Carmel Valley and towards Pt. Lobos. It was an extremely important area to wildlife and Native Californians.

The Carmel River State Beach is a nice stop on your drive into or out of Carmel. If you want to enjoy the quaint small town atmosphere of Carmel then park downtown but if you want to enjoy the coastline then this is your place. We easily found parking and were able to get out and explore.
