If you love California impressionist, plain air painting this is THE gallery to learn more about it. The association has a storied history with a number of books for purchase that highlight the history as well as good reproductions of notable painters over the past 90 years of the gallery’s existence. My husband and I were happy with the friendly reception we received there. The staff is happy to answer questions and educate their visitors. We joined the association to support this organization and we bought a lovely small oil from a well known local artist.

From the warm welcome you'll receive to the expansive array of art and artists, this is a do-not-miss art lovers destination. Suzanne, Sally, and Kim are knowledgeable, low key, and happy to assist whether in telling you about an artist or pulling works from the stacks. You'll find something special at every turn.

Over the many years of its existence, the gallery has provided wonderful displays of the many local artists who live in and create their works of art on the Monterey Peninsula. It is always a treat to see what the staff has chosen to display as well as pick through stacks of paintings from there artists.

I was fascinated to learn that the 100+ artists that are a part of this co-op must live withing 30 miles of Carmel. You can't get more local than that! I was truly a kid in a candy store, surrounded by amazing finds. I made me want to buy a bigger house so that I would have more walls to use some of the wonderful art.

This is a co-op of local artists who show their work in the gallery.
Friendly staff work the gallery, are happy to discuss works, artists and styles.
They will change settings, hang different canvases, to show things in the best light.
We have purchased various artists there, and have met many of the artists at receptions at the gallery.
They wrap purchases well for transport or are willing to ship.
Canvases are always changing, always worth a visit on a trip to Carmel.

We spent an afternoon looking at art galleries in Carmel, and ended up at this unique establishment. This gallery is community-based, and has a huge collection of modern artists, with emphasis on plein air artists. You are essentially buying directly from the artist. No pressure from the extremely knowledgeable people at the front desk.

This is a great gallery. First of all, there are multiple modern artists' works exhibited here. The ladies are truly knowledgeable, I believe that they're also a non-for-profit organization. If you enjoy modern art, I'd start with this place and they move around; you'll notice that you'd see some of the artists' works in other galleries, so it's a great starting point to get a general picture. Great place!

This community based art gallery is a real gem! This is always a must stop visit for me. The exhibits are extensive and the quality is superb! Love the local flavor. I can spend hours just admiring the great art of these local artists. I highly recommend. There is no admission fee but I know they greatly appreciate donations! Long live the Carmel Art Association!
