Even if you nothing about Robinson Jeffers, this tour is a roller coaster of stories and architecture. Super entertaining guides. Easy to find parking on the street.

This is well worth doing! The tour guide made it very interesting. It is an amazing property overlooking the ocean with so much history on the area and on Robinson Jeffers’ life. Highly recommend!

A great way to spend an hour and a half. Our docent was very entertaining and knowledgeable. The house and the history behind it is fascinating.

It might look like a relatively small, quirky stone house, but don't underestimate it. This is the hand-built home of one of the greatest American poets in history (even if literary critics don't like him much anymore). As such, every square foot of it is dripping in meaning and significance. The wonderful docents can tell you, literally, about the importance of many of the individual stones that you see. Do yourself a favor and read some of Robinson Jeffers' poetry, as well, as that will give you a good sense of who he was and what his mind was like. I recommend starting with "Shine, Perishing Republic" and "The Purse-Seine."

We were so impressed with the tour of Tor House led by Sarah Rubin -- She was intelligent, articulate and very informative, achieving a good overall balance between the history of Jeffers' home and artifacts and his life's work. We really appreciated her inclusion of some of his poetry. If you're visiting Carmel, it's a great way to spend 1-1/2 hours and learn about a poet more deserving of our attentions.

Tor House and the adjacent tower are located in what is now a residential area within picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea.

They are included in the US National Register of Historic Places, and appropriately so.

The House and the tower were constructed by the eminent poet Robinson Jeffers in the early days of Carmel, when it was an artists’ colony.

The house is remarkably well preserved.

This is a great tour, conducted by dedicated volunteers who are both passionate and knowledgeable about their subject.

The tour takes a little over an hour, and you need to book in advance, as the tour group size is limited.

If you have an interest in history generally, American literature and/ or the local history of Carmel, this tour is a must!

And, many thanks to the volunteers who make the tours possible.

We had a delightful tour of these beautiful grounds, the house, cottage and Hawk Tower. But, the best part was learning the history of Tor House and the Jeffers family. Can’t believe I have been coming to Carmel for over 50 years and this was the first time to actually tour the house and grounds. Made for a perfect morning on a very beautiful day.

I so enjoyed this tour of Tor House. As a local, it is fascinating to catch-up on the rich history of the area I live and work in. Amazing architectural feat and very informative. I plan to have all of my family members visit when they come to town. Even my 86 year old mother was able to climb Hawk Tower and it was so wonderful to see her enjoy the tour as much as I did. Great experience for everyone!

Such an amazing home and grounds nestled on the Carmel coast. The structures are awe inspiring and built…by…hand. Listening to the history of Robinson Jeffers and his family’s travels are fascinating. Our guide, Susan, was knowledgeable and the way she read short passages were spellbinding. To see the home, preserved just how they lived was stunning. I highly recommend going and learning a little bit about a fascinating poet, how he lived his life and loved his family.
