Went for a free mucic event, a Johhny Cash tribute band, Cashed Out, they were excellent. Five thousand people and the event was handled with grace and very good planning. Parking is tight as in non existent but the city provides a free shuttle. Be prepared to park in nearby neighborhoods and walk half a mile or more to the park. So impressed with the committee that plans these events! Porta potties are on site as are good vendors but most bring picnics. Alcohol is allowed at these events. Come early for a good spot near the dance floor!

My sister-in-law and I took her grandchildren to Alga Norte to cool off during our latest heat wave. It is a great place for younger children to play in the pool and run around the really cool splash pad.

There are lots of chairs, lounge chairs and they have shaded areas as well. As another reviewer stated, this would not be of interest to tourists but it provides a great service for locals who want to escape the heat. It is more geared to children but there were also many adults swimming laps in a different area of the pool.

The facility has nice restrooms, lockers and showers.

We did not use the actual park, just the aquatic center which was very fairly priced.

This is a very large, very busy community park. Parking is often a challenge. You'll be dodging mini vans and frazzled, rude soccer moms. It's not a place to go and relax - more like a park you end up at because your kid is playing in a game of some sort.

The dog park is pretty nice, but far from the best in the area. We visit dog parks at least a couple of times a week, and this one is by far the worst of them. The ground is covered in brown wood chips, which hides dog poop that owners either don't see their dog depositing or don't care. There's more poop on the ground here every time I visit than at any other dog park, and there are regular occurrences of dog fights (some resulting in serious injuries). That barely ever happens at the other places we take our pooch (Encinitas community park and Del Mar dog beach). I think people are catching onto this though. The last time we were there at the end of a work, there were hardly any dogs there.

It's the obvious choice if you live nearby, but if you're looking for the best park experience for yourself or your dog, this isn't it.

This is not a place that would be of interest to a tourist.

Some of the older kids are arrogant and rude. There are frequent thefts of anything that gets left around.

But the playing fields and frequent team sports are enjoyable for people who like those activities as participants or spectators.

We took our 3 and a half year old grandson and 2 and a half year old granddaughter there and they had the best time ever. The facilities are new and well maintained. Safe for the little ones and very good for the older ones, ball fields, pool, etc.

I take my 2 Grandchicks here every time I visit. They live only a few streets away and it is a wonderful clean and safe place to help "exercise" the children. Padded grounding in playground area helps with any falls and sculpted sand play areas are so nice. Lots of running room on a huge green manicured "field" provides lots of running races, tag and ball activities. The large pool complex is next to the field. It is AMAZING with multiple pools for everyone! Please take yourself (and your children and dog) to this park if you can. Yes, they even have a Dog Walking Park next to the soccer/baseball areas...

This is Carlsbad's newest community parks located in South Carlsbad close to El Camino Real. Nearby residents and all locals enjoy so many parts of the park. There's a dog park separated into large and small dogs which is always used. Alga Norte has baseball fields, soccer fields, swimming, basketball and a well respected skate park. It's all there and more....this is one of the venues for the summer outdoor concerts in the park. This park has something for everyone!
