We didn’t do the spa but I had to try the water. It’s $1.00 per gallon so we filled up our container. I thought it would be like bottled water but it was soooo much better!!! We have filtered water at home. It was better than filtered! Try it you might like it!

My husband and my first couples massage. He did some research about this spa and the mineral water bath so it was on our to do list while in Carlsbad. We didn't book it until our last day and it was worth the wait! We were in the Asian inspired room. Lovely decor and beautiful light. The bath was drawn for us as we arrived and plenty of cold mineral water to drink as we soaked in the enormous bathtub. We closed our eyes and relaxed...After the mineral bath we had a 1hour massage then a 30min facial. I don't think my husband was ready for a facial but he was a trooper (smile). The massage therapist worked deep and got every spot, I even fell asleep at one point. The facials were the icing on the cake. We spent a couple of hours getting pampered....worth it.

The website says their water is similar to the mineral water in Hungary, and was featured on the Ellen Degeneres show. I liked the concept of the mineral water spa, so booked spa treatments for my sister and myself which included a bath in the mineral water, a one hour massage, and a wrap or facial. I got the wrap which was pretty blah. I think the facial would have been a better deal. The massage was fine. It was a bummer that they charge you a fee for using your credit card. Convenient location in Carlsbad Village, in walking distance of the Carlsbad Inn where we were staying and the beach.

My package included a mineral bath followed by a eucalyptus wrap. The tub was huge, making it so I could not lay down comfortably without slipping down too far. Afterwards, found out there was another choice of a nice normal size tub, but they never mentioned it. Then for the wrap, she wrapped me in sticky plastic. I told the attendant before she began that I was used to being wrapped in a sheet, and she said they used sheets for the herbal wraps, not the eucalyptus wrap. Again, that was not explained either that day or the week before when I made the appointment, and she did not offer to switch it for me. It was not a relaxing or comfortable experience.

I was told by my doctor that having weekly massages would be very good for my back, so i looked in to the cost of massages. Short of large massage salons, this was available. Their massages were about $80 and we first class, as good as any massage I have gotten in Palm Desert or Chicago. Very worthwhile!!!!

There a couple things that set this place apart from the other local spas (which are also good btw). The first is the atmosphere/history. The building itself was designed to fit into the theme of Carlsbad's sister city in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, which is also the hometown of the owner of Carlsbad Mineral Spa. In the mid 90's he revived the well back that had been abandoned back during the depression. . The spa rooms themselves are all themed from Egyptian to Greek to Italian, which is fun and gives a feeling you're on staycation when you go there.
The services are good and a nice range between massage, detox wraps, body scrubs, facials and mineral soaks. I go every few months, so I don't have any particular person I see, but each time I go I feel relaxed, rejuvenated and smart for having spend about 1/4 less than the other places.
The other cool thing about this place is that it sits atop a mineral water Artesian well. The water is alkaline which is incredibly good for detoxing the body. If you haven't tried it, you must. It actually tastes really refreshing. They have kiosks where locals come in droves to fill up their empty water bottles. I actually invested in the 3 gallon counter top bottle that they sell (bottle sizes range from 1-5 gallons and prices range from $6-$45) and have used it for 2 years now without any issues.
If you book a service, be sure to bring an empty gallon jug with you. It's just .80 cents to rinse and fill it and it's an excellent way to flush your system after a full body treatment.
Good to know: They offer gift certificates and home delivery. If you know anyone going through chemo, recovering from an illness or just doing a general health cleanse. Their water would make an incredibly thoughtful and useful gift.

The machines here DO NOT take $20 bills!!! Make sure to bring your own change!!! And if you need change there is an employee usually around wearing a dark blue shirt during working hours that will give it to you.

I wasn't looking for any spa treatment but was very interested in this place, where the history of Carlsbad started. I liked the nicely restored spa building and mineral water vending machines. Very interesting idea.

My husband said "honey, water is water" until he tried this. It really tastes different and it's great! Makes you want to drink more water. It's crowded on the weekends so go at off times. 70 cents a gallon!

I am wondering about accessibility, does a person need to be able to get in and out of a typical bathtub or are there other options for a disabled person?
