Peace and solitude, such valuable commodities, every-and-any-where it con be found, these are the treasures upon which no monetary value can be set. This is one of those little slices of paradise. It is small now but it has bigger aspirations. We wish them well and much success.
Under the bridge, sit a spell and watch the ocean and lagoon interact. There are some incredible views under the bridge, looking out to where the lagoon battles with the current.
Along this short path (for now, until expansion eventually happens), we watched as a heron seemed to be fishing with a pole (never leave those things untended), and life just quietly played out at a much less hectic pace. Dial it down, sit and breath deeply and enjoy the moment.
Once more, we did not visit the Discovery Center but spent our time in the Lagoon environs. Sit on Titus (the dog's) bench and ponder how many happy walks that canine spent waiting to hear those magic words.

It’s a cute little place to spend a little bit of time. I took my kids when we were trying to kill some time one day. They have a number of animals you can touch if you ask. The kids loved looking at the tortoise outside. We did the nature trail out back too, but there wasn’t much to look at.

Really well done center.
We stopped at the center following a visit to the flower fields.
The center is well put together and targets smaller grade-school age children. My boys are well into their teens and, while they looked around, it was a bit too young for them. Just be aware of the demographic target going in. My wife is a grde school educator and thought it was really great. Overall, it's well worth the stop if you're in the area. Figure on about a 90 minute visit, depending upon how much of a walk you'd like to include.
The staff is really pleasant and the parking is plentiful. Views are terrific - make sure to get pictures! The center is at the intersection of Cannon Dr and Faraday Ave, which is signalized. Cannon has a high speed limit so watch for the center as it'll sneak up on you.

Future expansion plans will make this an exceptional walking route and will be such a welcome amenity to the community (as well as us visitors). At the present time, the 1/2 mile walk goes up to an overhead bridge crossing but looking beyond that, we could see the expansion potential. A map of the future trail shows that this is going to be awesome!
In the meantime, it was a pleasant place to watch the seals come in for those fish the hatcheries release, fishermen cast their lines, owners and dogs take in the fresh air, hikers/walkers sit on the benches to better take in the views, and all this just on the other side of the Carlsbad Boulevard bridge! (The ocean lies just past the inlet).
We peeked inside the fencing surrounding the fishery site and saw the different tanks for, we assume, raising the fries to maturity before releasing. On this walk, we did not go to the Discovery Center and focused instead on the beauty of nature.

My children and I love coming here. The views over the lagoon are beautiful, the artifacts around the center are intriguing and best of all the animals have become like family. Very entertaining for the kids and great coffee shop for the adults.

If you happen to stop here when they are having an event, it can be lively but normally its' a quiet, small spot where nature is featured. Some short walks on grounds.

We stay near the west end of the Lagoon and enjoy walking and birdwatching along the area where it empties into the ocean. It took us a while to realize that the Discovery Center is inland several blocks to the east. There are very interesting exhibits in the Center with information about the inhabitants of the Lagoon and it is a good place to ask questions about this unique area. There is also a relatively short trail outside that goes near the Lagoon and a pond with several kinds of waterfowl.

The most interesting thing for us was the Bee Hive. Normally I am afraid of bees, but I was calm standing next to the hive. We stood there and watched for at least 25 min.

We love to hike the lagoon with our family and dog. It's always a different experience each time we go. Great bird viewing as well. If you are a runner, the trail is perfect!

How wonderful to have met Winston the bearded dragon, Rose the Rose Boa and Vladimir the Russian Turtle!!! They came to visit Carlsbad Seapointe and we had the opportunity to meet each of them, and hold them up close and personal!! We had so much fun!! It's clear the Discovery Center really cares well and loves their animals!! They are open generally daily from 10a-4pm. (check hours). The admission is FREE - does it get any better than that?!! Enjoy!!
