We skied Hokkaido for a week in late Jan-early Feb.2018. We hit Moiwa, Furano, Annupuri, Rusutsu, and did some touring. The snow, the terrain, the people were amazing. Best of all was Shimamaki cat skiing. The powder was incredible. Great terrain. Lots of vertical with...More

Unreliable cat: Did the two day Shimamaki cat ski trip in February 2018 with a few buddies and on the last day we were heading up for our last run of the trip and halfway up the hill the cat breaks down. We had to...More

TLDR: Do not book lift assisted "backcountry" with HBC, because they will take you in-bounds skiing. Also if you want true sidecountry, do NOT go to Rusutsu either. There are no gates. Make sure you ask the guides if the mountain has gates. Skiing out...More

A recommendable experience in Hokkaido. They have a truly professional crew and everything worked really well. Our guide Chris really knew what he was doing. Bad luck with the weather limited the possibilities for us. If there's no unexpected rainfall or a heavy snowstorm hitting...More

I thought - “Am I in a movie or just dreaming…” while skiing the deepest, fluffiest powder of my life. Appealing to the ski/snowboard purist seeking powder & cultural experience. Staying in a Japanese Ryokan run by the most gracious Japanese hosts. Enjoy fresh seafood...More

We had a brilliant day, sadly it hasn't snowed for 10 days, so conditions not ideal, still plenty of snow, but we still found a few untouched areas in the trees. Terrain suits intermediate and above. It takes 10 mins to go up in the...More
