Khyentse Rinpoche was one of the main spiritual teachers of the Bhutanese Royal Family. With great devotion Her Royal Majesty Ashi Kesang Choeden Wangchuck offered the house to Rinpoche in the 1970s. He spent part of each year there on retreat, giving teachings to his closest disciples, and participating in the annual drupchens at the neighboring Kyichu Monastery.*

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was a great scholar and the main spiritual teacher of the Royal Family of Bhutan. This house was offered to him by Her Royal Majesty as a residence in 1970 and was used by him as a retreat. His close disciples also received teachings from him here. This house is located just next to the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang where Rinpoche used to participate in the annual spiritual practices of meditation and purification of the mind (drupchens). This memorial displays his personal belongings including ceremonial dress, books, letters, photographs, video documentaries, his life size statue etc. This house has been kept as it was when used by Rinpoche in the believe to preserve the spiritual atmosphere that has filled here because of the chanting of prayers, meditation and spiritual activity over the times.

Going by the some of the reviews written about this memorial, it appears many tourist seem to be confusing it with the Kyichu Lhakhang (a 7th century twin temple complex) adjacent to this memorial house. The timings of this memorial are from 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's Residence Memorial is considered to be a place of inspiration and blessings.

This is the place of Rinpoche dating back to 8th century with inner sanctum made of wood and many holy relics are centuries old .
It has to be visited to understand how much in reverence this place in particular holds for Bhutanese people who head to this place with strings of beads in hands as they do the kora and their are very colourful prayer wheels in its grounds .

It provides an interesting insight to how Rinpoche lived and worked, with lots of photographs to illustrate.

A small and very old Buddhist temple in beautiful surroundings. Temple is very peaceful and serene. The Buddha and other statues in the sanctum sanctorium are bright in colors and one can see peace in the face. There are many fruit and flower plants around the temple.Surrounding area has beautiful mountains.

A small monastery but very sacred. There are prayer wheels around the walls for devotees, the monastery looks ordinary yet it is beautiful. This doesn't take long.
