Beautiful setting!

The setting is the whole reason to visit. After seeing the movie "Bottle Shock," we were excited to visit during the 40th year anniversary. The wine tasting was just okay.

Stopped by on a recommendation. Easy to find, ample parking but stairs to the main building. Nice garden path & ponds. A historical landmark where wine is still currently produced. Upstairs is a small small tasting room and kind of a gift shop. Only 6-8 people can taste comfortably. This turned us off. With time not on our side, we... More

Beautiful grounds - but incredibly poor customer service. Our first Winery visit for the day and an older gentleman who seemed to himself be in a hurry, failed to greet us or explain any of the offerings available. We live down Valley so had friends in for the week and thought CM would be a great starting point for our... More

Hello smaguy, Thank you for visiting Chateau Montelena Winery. We are happy to be a part of the Napa Neighbors program and apologize for the misunderstanding surrounding this program. There was an internal misinterpretation of the details of the offer, and we have since clarified with our staff what we offer to our Napa Neighbors. Please feel free to contact... More

This place is gorgeous - the castle, the gardens and just the surroundings. Also, they have a room explaining the history of the winery and the area and a bit about winemaking in general. Other than that the tasting was a little impersonal and formal for our taste, wines were okay. They let you split "one tasting" between a couple,... More

This is the winery that inspired the movie "Bottle Shock" about the tasting breakout for the entire Napa Valley area in France in the early 1970's when they won the worldwide Chardonnay tasting, putting the Napa Valley on the map of premier wine growing regions in the world. We failed to make reservations early enough (2 weeks out) so plan... More

This is a really grand vineyard with lots of history and absolutely gorgeous grounds. Do yourself a favor and take some time to walk around outside and enjoy the walkway over the lake. There's also an interesting historical movie about the vineyard and a room with information about the history of the awards, etc. that we really enjoyed. My only... More

We visited Chateau Montelena in October, the tour was great and the place is amazing... our host was great and he knew his job very well. He has passion for what he does. The tour is great as this winery has different locations that are not similar between each other and the property is amazing. The wines are great ant... More

I had a great time. My wife who prefers sweeter wines did not have that great of time. Person servicing our tasting session had a great knowledge of Cabernet's and made suggestions for my wife. Great ambience!

We had seen the movie Bottle Shock so we wanted to make sure we visited the Montelena vineyard while in Napa. We had a very pleasant well managed tour of the grounds and enough wine during the tasting to get us relaxed. The owner Beau (an important character in the film) came out to see us on the tour and... We of course wanted to see where the 1976 winner of the Paris wine tasting was made. This winery is wonderful, still family owned and full of passion for the skill of wine making. Watch the movie Bottle Shock before you visit.
