The Juan Luna Shrine is located in Badoc, Ilocos Norte. It is the birth place of Juan Luna, one of the countries national hero and is famous for his painting, The Spoliarium. Juan is also the brother of Gen. Antonio Luna who also fought for the Philippines independence against the americans.
Thr Juan Luna shrine is a must see place when in Ilocos Norte.

Great Filipino artist, internationally known by winning gold medal in his Spoliarium during the Madrid Art Exposition in the late 1800. A reproduction of the art piece is hanged therein.
The house the famous painter once lived is well kept and the curator/guide was able to articulate so well the purpose of having this shrine. Very nice showcase of arts and culture of the Filipinos particularly from Juan Luna.

Juan Luna is a painter, sculptor and political activist during the Spanish era in the Philippines. He won gold and silver medals for his works Spoliarium and Death of Cleopatra respectively, in the Madrid Expositions in 1800's. He was born in this big colonial house in the small town of Badoc, Ilocos Norte. Along the grounds, one can find reproductions of his famous paintings which is really marvelous.

Been to the Ilocos Region numerous times but not in the last 9 years. Either I missed this one in previous trips or it was put up in 2007 onwards.
This site is an ideal history-related tourist attraction for me: compact size with the best highlights/facts of the person's life presented in a visually appealing way. The guides were not ignorant ones but ones who know what they are talking about (I am a history buff so I know when someone is just making things up or recites from an incorrect source).
Definitely worth a stop and a some good thinking after. Wish the concerned government agency running this (NCCA or NHI or another, I forgot which) would have more of this type of attraction.

Made the trip down from loag to badoc to see this but was a little disappointed it was closed. A nice young man came out and did give us some information and overall the people who restored this did a wonderful job at quite some expense which you don't often find in Philippines .

When the whole family passed by this place, it was closed for renovation. But we were still able to stay for awhile because there where copies of his painting on the exterior walls of the premisses. There was a man who was an actual tour guide of the place (he was wearing an ID) and willingly told us the story about the life of Juan Luna. It was very interesting to hear all those stories. Even if we did not enter the museum, our minds were full of information. We gave him US$10 tip!

The architecture and memorabilia were well maintained. The persons in charge were very friendly. It was a good experience for our family. It was just a small place but I was able to learn more about Juan and Antonio Luna.
