You can do lattes, lunch and shopping, all in a 3 block area around 4th street. Crate&barrel, peers coffee, and indie shops are nearby. Some spots are a little pricey, but its pleasant and relaxing for an afternoon.

Lots of trendy stores, where you can find everything that you don't need. You may just find that one special useless accessory that 'completes you' as a consumer...er... I mean as a 'person' ;-)

Enjoy a historic street that has been updated (gentrified) some years ago, and retains a cozy feel. No big chains, except for the Apple store, and Peet's coffee. And the Crate & Barrel Outlet. Good restaurants and take-out, and a wide variety of local shops. Easy destination from I-80 freeway.

Fourth street is my go to destination for shopping local. From small boutiques to high end department stores like Anthropologie, you can't go wrong. There are several cafes and restaurants as well as a bookstore, an Apple Store and Crate and Barrel Outlet store. They also have live music on the weekends.

The Fourth Street Corridor between Hearst and Virginia features a wide array of cafes and shops. Enjoyable pedestrian experience. The Seva Foundation (seva.org) world headquarters is around the corner.

Betty's diner is always a favorite. This is a nice pace to meet for lunch and coffee (Peets) and walk the short blocks of interesting specialty stores.

Lots of unique shops and great food restaurants. Has a laid back feel yet sophisticated! Its an easy and sweet walk shopping from one end to the other, and one can always stop at Bette's diner or Peets to have a refreshment.

Great shops including Sur La Table, along with small boutiques (Molly b, Castle in the Sky) plus factory store Crate and Barrel. Jigsaw (British brand) is also there plus Kiehl's, Mac, The Gardner, Peet's, the Apple Store, Papyrus and neighborhood favorite Betty's Oceanview Diner. Pave Jewelers has an amazing selection of gems along with a friendly knowledgable staff. The downside... More

I really want to like 4th street, because they have worked very hard to create comfortable, wide sidewalks with eye-candy storefronts in Berkeley. However, I just don't like it here much. I still come down when I need something specific (Apple store, Crate and Barrel). Otherwise, I avoid it because it is quite crowded and the parking is a total... More
