Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley is still so reminiscent of the 60's that you will feel as if you have traveled back in time when you visit Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. The shops and eateries are a mix of quintessential hippie-dom mixed with the current U.C. Berkeley modern day student. Both seem to blend together in a medley that makes shopping and eating here almost a cultural or historical trek as well as a great shopping one.

There's good and bad here - lots of history, some nice new shops and restaurants (Mezzo, Sinaloa) but still very dirty, but I guess that's part of the scene.

Every hippie cliche imaginable. There are still local businesses but it is starting to be overrun with chains.

Lots to do, see, and eat! Great to walk down and walk into the shops like the Chinese bakery on the corner, T-Shirt Orgy, Rasputin Music, and Cream.

It is sorry to see the demise and corporate takeover of Telegraph Ave. Once cool, with great independent stores--bookstores, cafes and the like-- it is now dirty and grubby, with chain outlets and the like. Still a few old standbys, but quite sad now. 4th...More

Great variety of shops and restaurants. You need more than one day to see it all. Some of the stuff for sale borders on the unique.

If you're a tourist, it isn't really worthy as an attraction to visit on purpose. If you're already on campus or downtown Berkeley, might as well check it out. There are still a couple of cool bookstores and independent shops, but not much else. The...More

Don't forget the side streets off of Telegraph - People's Park, used records, Gumby, Poky, kites, things to read, buttons and bumper stickers, bicycles, bagels, balloons...More

Cafes, restaurants, bookstores, Tibetan shops, stores, punks, hippies, students, visitors, artists, street vendors, homeless, and more all mix on historic Telegraph Avenue that runs from Oakland right into the UC Berkeley campus.

It probably depends on the vendor. There's an excellent Chinese bakery across from campus that I visited about 9 am. I didn't see street vendors then. They were there in the afternoon. It probably depends on the day of the... More
