such a picturesque place - peace and tranquility that's what one finds there - besides the uncountable possibilities of capturing stunning images. Especially the light early in the morning and late afternoon. We stay near the caves in a self catering cottage so it takes just 15min to get to the entrance. It's useful to get as much information about the Stadsal beforehand to find all the special named rock formations.....

We visited the Stadsaal Caves last week while staying at the Algeria Campsite. Beautiful and fairly easy drive considering the 40km of dirt road. We were blown away by the beauty of the place. Also we were lucky enough to have the caves to ourselves and we explored them for over an hour. The elephant painting is also incredily well preserved. A must-do if you are in the area!!

The resort staff very well educated on the story of the ancient people who had been living there in those caves 6000 years ago He told us how they lived from the painting on the cave’s walls and explained the meaning of those drawings.

good to see the caves still so well protected after a visit 49 years ago! It is a long (and sometimes tiresome) drive over dirt roads, but worth it. Keep a watch as to your location in the caves - its quite easy to get disorientated!

I'm a bit rusty on S A hisstory but on the walls of the caves are the signatures of various politicians who held secret meetings here in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Sadly some people have added their own graffiti. A short walk away are amazing vistas and wonderful weathering of the sandstone. It is fun to find animal shapes amongst the weird rocks. Surprised to find loos at this remote site!

Go seek the caves and walk around. Definitely you would love it.If you don't have a lot of time to enjoy the Cederberg, just come here. But remember buy the permits first. You can buy the permits from Dwarsriver Farm.

A stunning picturesque place. Loads of climbing space. Kids would enjoy it, not good for parents with week nerves. Quite a drive from Algeria office, about an hour.
The rock paintings are just a few hundred meters away.

Stadsaal caves in the Cederberg are enormous and interesting and fun to visit. Kids love to run around and pretend this is their home. Near the caves is some well preserved San rock art.
