It is one of the popular beaches in Ernakulam. It can't be compared to a Kovalam or some of the popular beaches in east and west coasts but it is a good spot to visit. It is about 30 kms from Kochi.

Tip No. 1: If you do want to explore Cherai beach, go beyond the typical touristy centre near the parking lot. Go left, for peaceful, clean beach, and right, for access to beach cafes etc, with people, but not as many as near the parking...More

The beach is fairly narrow and not too many people venture in deep but if you just want to get reasonably wet, it is a good place. No hawkers or vendors to disturb you and yes, it is very clean!

the beach is dirty and littered with trash. Lots of souvenir vendors and street vendors hounding everyone. Some of the Chinese fishing nets are located here and some of them sell their fresh fish on the beach.

A fairly large and long beach front Could do with more facilities for tourists but perhaps its location at one side of Vypin Island keeps it from attracting many tourists Its location makes possible the views of spectacular sunsets and in the right season pleasant...More

For the total sightseeing of Kochi Airport is good, but I suggest at least one day's stay in Cherai.
I'm thinking of doing a two week beach stay but am finding it tricky to get the truth about this area. Some people say it's clean and others tha it is dirty ( visiting ah same time !). Some people say that the sea is good to swim in, others that it is full of rubbish and no good to swim in. Should I choose another beach ?
