The largest port in Bangladesh, the Karnaphuli River is chock full of fishing boats and major cargo vessels. The river and the riverbank are extraordinarily polluted and smelly. But the buzz and hive of activity are fascinating. Fisherman all up and down the riverbanks mend their nets. Hold your breath, but do visit.

Evening cruise on private motor boat. Many commuters cross the river in the mornings and back in the evenings after work. Many large ships anchored in the river.

Big river of chattagram, runs through the city. About half a kilometer in width, the bridge over it. If we are going south of Chittagong we need to cross it. I had to, since I was going to Cox's Bazar. The river looks dirty towards the banks on both the sides.

Karnaphuli is a 667-metre (2,188 ft) wide, and the largest and most important river in Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Comes from the Saitah village of Mamit district in Mizoram, India. Chittagong is situated on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal.

Chittagong city do not provide much attraction for general tourist. This is indeed the business district of central Bangladesh. However, the only attraction to visit during your stay in Chittagong is the Karnafuli river. It is buzzing with life and vigour. We took a rickshaw all the way to Karnafuli ferry ghat; a not so impressive place to venture out for general tourist. This is the life line of the people of Chittagong.we hires a boat for 500 BDT to take us to Karnafuli bridge and back. The river cruise on a non-fancy boat was ultimately exciting and fun-filled. This was beyond our expectations. The river is dotted with boats and vessels of all sizes; from tiny fishing boats to huge oil tankers, there were busy ferry carrying daily passengers to idle and redundant boats waiting for their turn to decommission. Ours was an ideal day for a boat ride this January – a bright sunny day with crisp cool breeze. We ended our journey at the Ferringi Ghat and wished our journey had never ended.
