About
Lalon also known as Lalon Sain, Lalon Shah, Lalon Fakir or Mahatma Lalon was a prominent Bengali philosopher, Baul saint, mystic, songwriter, social reformer and thinker from the Indian subcontinent. Regarded as an icon of Bengali culture, he inspired and influenced many poets, social and religious thinkers including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Allen Ginsberg although he "rejected all distinctions of caste and creed". Widely celebrated as an epitome of religious tolerance, he was also accused of heresy during his lifetime and after his death. In his songs, Lalon envisioned a society where all religions and beliefs would stay in harmony. He founded the institute known as Lalon Akhrah in Cheuriya, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from Kushtia railway station. His disciples dwell mostly in Bangladesh and West Bengal. Every year on the occasion of his death anniversary, thousands of his disciples and followers assemble at Lalon Akhrah.

Lalon also known as Fakir Lalon Shah, Lalon Shah, Lalon Fakir or Mahatma Lalon. He was a prominent Bengali philosopher, Baul saint, mystic, songwriter, social reformer and thinker from the Indian subcontinent. Regarded as an icon of Bengali culture, he inspired and influenced many poets, social and religious thinkers including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Allen Ginsberg although he "rejected all distinctions of caste and creed".

Lalon was against religious conflict and many of his songs mock identity politics that divide communities and generate violence. In his songs, Lalon envisioned a society where all religions and beliefs would stay in harmony. He even rejected nationalism at the apex of the anti-colonial nationalist movements in the Indian subcontinent. He did not believe in classes or castes, the fragmented, hierarchical society, and took a stand against racism.

For his followers this is a holy place. His grave residing here along with his first level followers. In the month of october there is big festival in this mazaar. There is no entree fees. Many Baul (Lalon followers) who stay in Mazar play Baul Song. Enjoying those song in that atmosphere is a different experiance.

Try to avoid evening time in this place. Just opposit to the park there is a big field. Normally you can park your car here. Parking charge is 100 Taka for full day. Just beside the field there is a small river called Kali Gang. There are many small shop and stall are around the mazaar.

Lalon is not just name of a folk song genre, Lalon also is a name of a life style, a believe on simplicity. Followers gather here and pay gratitude to Lalon Sai. They practice his view and his songs in groups. People across the country comes here to enjoy the songs of this belief. There are tombs of lalon sai and many of his renown followers. Just do not come here, roam around and leave; rather try to talk to some followers, enjoy the performances. Only then your visit will be a worth one. And do not forget to have famous kulfi and tiler khaja of Kushtia, available near by shops or mobile vendors.

Lalan Fakir is known by many name – Fakir Lalan Shah, Mahatma Lalan. With my fellow professors visited Lalon Shah Mazar Kushtia Bangladesh on 25 June 2019. Bangladesh government paid adequate attention and constructed 4-storey guest house and banquet/ hall for convenience of visitors. The ambience is excellent as on date. But place does not seem as that of a Fakir. But the constructions are superb and are liked by all tourists.
Lalon was a Baul saint, prominent Bengali philosopher, supernatural, songwriter and also an eminent social reformer. Lalon was a great thinker from the Indian subcontinent. Furthermore Lalon is regarded as an icon of Bengali culture. Lalan Fakir ‘rejected all distinctions of caste and creed. It stand established that he inspired and influenced many poets, social and religious thinkers including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam.
With five professors I visited. A short show of Bowl songs was organised by dwellers there. We all liked the songs by three of them.
On interrogation local people we came to know that every year on the occasion of his death anniversary, thousands of his disciples and followers assemble at Lalon Akhrah, to pay tribute and respect to him through celebration and discussion of his songs and philosophy for three days
After completing minimal formalities we blessed and left the site.
Lalon Fakir will remain for ever and ever after.

If you love folk, fusion, music you should be pretty keen to visit this place. Lalon Geeti is one of the prominent genre of Bengali Music and songs. So the the creator of this songs is Mr. Fakir Lalon. So this Mazaar means the graveyard of Mr. Lalon. This place is really famous for many aspects. You can enjoy live music in a very folk style. No electric instrument. Lalon followers are there. They are very nice. They sing by themselves. You can sit, relax and listen to Lalon Song. Each year there are Lalon Mela also takes place here. A must visit in Bangladesh.
