Wandering through the village, we naturally came across this big square. The buildings around it are begging to be photographed so we duly obliged!

Cars are a rare sight whn strolling the narrow streets of Santillana del Mar. They are generally hidden from view in the old village except for deliveries.

It is really amazing to see a plaza where each building has a special story going back to medieval times

The church sits in the square and makes for a pretty background. Very quiet in the off season. Sit awhile and if you’re lucky a musician will be playing.

Santillna del Mar is a charming little medieval town which everyone must visit. The only problem is that it is full of tourists during the summer months. I suggest a visit in October or November.

Open until 7.00 pm and cost only 3 euros. The inside contained architecture of the middle ages, it seems that you're in another era.

I can't imagine how crowded this attractive village gets in high season, but on a sunny Tuesday in late September it was absolutely lovely. With its quaint stone buildings and cobbled streets this is far removed from the image most people have of Spain. Granted,...More

We had a good afternoon stroll and tea in this lovely village. A good place to take good photos and shops selling handmade handicrafts. You may want to bring an umbrella during the rainy season.
