This is my second visit to the Fortress (definitely NOT a castle) and the first time I ascended the steps up to it from Nafplio. It is a superb Fortress, well kept and conserved, but as always with such fortifications, in dire need of even more work. This is one of the most important fortifications in Greece and its early... A well preserved castle with a beautiful view, nice to visit in spring if you want to climb the 999 steps.

You can't come to Nafplion and not visit this establishment. The ice cream is fresh and wonderful. I have a weakness for the Chestnut ice cream. The best I ever had... love love love! 😋

If you're into hiking 999 steps vertically, then this is the spot for you! The castle itself is pretty cool. But the views, oh my! The views! Worth a visit and the hike is faster than you'd expect, and less difficult than it looks. ;)

A fortress you can visit by going up its 857 stairs from the city centre or visit by car 2 - 3 km from the town. Built by the Venetians, then captured by the Turks and freed during the Greek Revolution of 1821. The view is amazing and a must see for everybody visiting Nafplio.

good for you if you walk the 999 steps (we counted a few more). If you can manage it then it seems a pity to leave Nafplion without having done it. It closes at 15.00 I believe. We spent an hour up there. There's also a nice evening walk around the back (ie sea-side).

The castle is extremely well preserved but the most important element is the view. You can enjoy the surroundings, the old and the new town, the sea, the Bourtzi, etc. You can reach it either by the stairs walking from the old town up till the castle (850 steps) either by car. I've been there numerous times and I shall go... More

Very hard to walk up in a very hot day. But the view of sunset will be rewarding. Even just to have an overview of surroundings.
