This is a Buddhist temple and an abode of Dalai Llama in Dharamshala. It has very nice statues of Lord Buddha. The place provides a good view of the Valley of McLeodGanj. A must visit place while in Dharamshala.

I got up very early and joined the monks (as an observer) while they finished breakfast and did morning prayers. Stroll down Temple road, clear security and go up sit on the platform as the day gets underway. Explore the Temple, walk past the prayer wheels and watch the buzz. I made a donation outside the Temple after I left. You can then follow the road around the perimeter. I had a arranged to meet the Dalai Lama on one of my trips which was a wonderful experience. Bear in mind that this is in McLeod Ganj above Dharamshala.

No vehicle goes to the gate of the temple, but you have to walk amidst the main market of McLedoganj doing shopping and if you like to eat small cafes are also there. It is a huge complex and photography is allowed not only in the premises but also inside the temple.Though it is crowded, but as the area is so large, so gathering is not felt. You can see Buddhist monks reading hymns, mediating in the premises. One thing to remember in this complex is to keep quite as much as possible.Just keep quite and enjoy the beauty.

What is the dress code for women when visiting the complex

A decent dress is more than what is needed to visit the temple. Above all this religious place also needs to maintain sacredness for other disciples visiting the place.
I will be staying at the monastery for a week.
Are there any precautions to take in advance regarding the food, water, vaccines? Any other guidelines for a first time traveler to India would be recommended.
thank you!

I will be staying at the monastery for a week. Leave in 5 days. Are there any precautions to take around the food or water? shots? This is my first time to India.

Yes Shots a good idea for immunity. Water only from bottles and please stock enough. There are shops near the monastery. Food you may take dry fruits and nuts which are high density items.

Hi,
I am planning to go to Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj in December 3 and 4th week. Can you please guide on the following:-
a) Please guide me in which locality in Dharamshala and in which locality in McLeod Ganj, I should take a hotel. Also, if you can recommend any good hotels in both the locations, that would be great.
b) From Google map, I understand that Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj are only 6 kms apart. If that is the case, can we stay at one of these places and commute to the other one for a day visit. Do we have some good mode of transport at reasonable price.
c) We are going for about 10 days trip and also planning to cover Dalhousie, so how many days we should give to Dharmashala, McLeod Ganj and Dalhousie.
Thanks.
