- DiaGone AllyKolkata (Calcutta), India3 contributionsPeace amidst GreensPower of prayers and dhoop. Fragrance soaked temple complex with enough room for prayers, play, study and mountain gazing. You can experience the chants, the thud and lull of music and instruments . Extreme solace of soul to gaze the shining golden Budhda. You can offer anything or nothing to the prayer Hall, yet you would return satisfied. The design of the monastery complex is such that there is something for everyone to explore. At a distance, you can see the Dharmshala ropeway by the TATA enterprise watching over the beautiful monastery complex. Recommend a zip lining experience in the best ropeway I have experienced in India.Visited August 2022Travelled soloWritten 10 August 2022

The most popular with place to visit in McLeod Ganj. Excellent Darshan with no touts. Very busy with lots of crowds. Both lifts were not working and the ramp was very steep and was relatively disabled unfriendly. Wheelchair available. Lots of monks were praying. Immediate parking around the area difficult. Small network of shops selling local goods.

Municipal Parking has DEADLY RAIN HARVESTING PIT AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE CORRECTION TO SAVE TOURIST FROM MISHAPPENING.

Beautiful temple offering serenity and peace of mind BUT THE PARKING AREA cum BUS DEPOT IS PRONE TO ACCIDENTS. In order to reach the temple one has to park their vehicle at MUNICIPAL parking which is about 600 meter below the temple complex. This huge parking has a deadly rain harvesting pit. The iron cage covering the pit has huge gaps and prone to severe accidents. I'm sharing my personal experience as my wife's leg stuck between the immovable iron bars for long. That was horrific experience as her muscle tissues got crushed and she got severe injury . A SINCERE REQUEST To Himachal tourism department to do the needful and Tourist PLEASE TAKE CARE IN CASE YOU ARE PLANNING TO PARK YOUR VEHICLE THERE.

It was a divine experience in a serene and pristine place with snow peaked mountains around. A nice place to meditate and feel the calmness settling in your mind is just amazing

Primarily the residence of Dalai Lama and from where Tibet's Government-in- Exile operates. Have a Kalchakra Temple inside, a good book shop and a nice Tibetan emporium! At McleodGunj, on the hills!

The monastery is at a height. Has become popular because His Holiness Dalai Lama stays here. The tere are many steps to climb. I saw a lift but not sure if it’s operational. You must try and visit when the prayers or mainly the debates are going on. I think the debates are in the evening from 4-5 pm.

Located in the heart of the town in a crowded area. A well maintained temple that serves as a place of worship.

What is the dress code for women when visiting the complex

A decent dress is more than what is needed to visit the temple. Above all this religious place also needs to maintain sacredness for other disciples visiting the place.
I will be staying at the monastery for a week.
Are there any precautions to take in advance regarding the food, water, vaccines? Any other guidelines for a first time traveler to India would be recommended.
thank you!

I will be staying at the monastery for a week. Leave in 5 days. Are there any precautions to take around the food or water? shots? This is my first time to India.

Yes Shots a good idea for immunity. Water only from bottles and please stock enough. There are shops near the monastery. Food you may take dry fruits and nuts which are high density items.

Hi,
I am planning to go to Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj in December 3 and 4th week. Can you please guide on the following:-
a) Please guide me in which locality in Dharamshala and in which locality in McLeod Ganj, I should take a hotel. Also, if you can recommend any good hotels in both the locations, that would be great.
b) From Google map, I understand that Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj are only 6 kms apart. If that is the case, can we stay at one of these places and commute to the other one for a day visit. Do we have some good mode of transport at reasonable price.
c) We are going for about 10 days trip and also planning to cover Dalhousie, so how many days we should give to Dharmashala, McLeod Ganj and Dalhousie.
Thanks.
