Visiting this decommissioned submarine was a great outing for my son and I. Very informative talk and history of the sub well covered. Super interesting to learn how submariners lived.

Well worth the visit. Any naval history buff, quite simply should not miss it. Take the children, they will love it. Round it off with a trip out to the submarine, if that is still possible.

The submarine is no longer open to the public due to internal wrangling within the SA Navy. There appears to be no date for the reopening

I read about the SAS Assegaai on Facebook and we decided to do a family visit. The arrangements to get to the submarine is really good from Jubilee Square. It was such a great experience for our Teenage son and tween daughter. The "Captain" was...More

Please note that the SAS Assegaai is in dry dock for repairs as it was leaking. Expected back in service as a museum late 2017

We were treated to an authentic account of life aboard one of South Africa's first submarines - by someone who'd "been there - done that". What a great experience! Bring all the kids interested in physics, mathematics, engineering..... even catering! It's all there.

Wow, this place has everything! We were impressed by the full helicopter inside, the submarine, and so many other things. And the staff at the front were so welcoming and had a wealth of information to share! Very interesting.

It's not often you get a chance to experience what life must have been like on a submarine. The tour guide was very informative and made the tour very interesting. Even our 5 and 7 year old boys had a great time.

It was nice going back through time and learning about the history of the SA Navy and the dockyard. It also brought back fond memories of my time spent there in the early seventies.

Most knowledgeable guides, who actually served on the submarine. They have wonderful stories about times aboard the submarine. Fascinating trip trough history.

As far as i know the submarine is currently out of the water, not sure if they are still doing the tours inside of the sub.
