We were treated to an authentic account of life aboard one of South Africa's first submarines - by someone who'd "been there - done that". What a great experience! Bring all the kids interested in physics, mathematics, engineering..... even catering! It's all there.

Wow, this place has everything! We were impressed by the full helicopter inside, the submarine, and so many other things. And the staff at the front were so welcoming and had a wealth of information to share! Very interesting.

It's not often you get a chance to experience what life must have been like on a submarine. The tour guide was very informative and made the tour very interesting. Even our 5 and 7 year old boys had a great time.

Not sure if this is still open to the public, so I would check with the Simons Town Navy office first. This was an active hunter submarine in the SA Navy from the 70's until 2003 and did war time duty on the Angolan Coast during the Angolan Border War. It's a really special piece of history and the subs... More

It was nice going back through time and learning about the history of the SA Navy and the dockyard. It also brought back fond memories of my time spent there in the early seventies.

Most knowledgeable guides, who actually served on the submarine. They have wonderful stories about times aboard the submarine. Fascinating trip trough history.

What a superb hour spent with Shaun. The kids loved the stories and we all became more aware of the hardships of living beneath the sea for long stretches of time. The sub is about to have some cosmetic surgery so we were lucky to see her before her upgrade. Don't hesitate to visit when she is back in action.... More

It was a great experience seeing the Assegaai and being inside. With many family members being part of SF and working with the Submariners, it was amazing to finally put some pieces together on how they all worked in tiny spaces. Absolutely worth it trip at a great price. Shaun was a great guide with an obvious love for what... More

Must do to experience engineering feat. Never knew submarine could be so complicated. Have a special regard for those who have served their country n worked in such a restricted space!

While on a mini family break in Simon's Town we visited the SAS Assegaai Museum. It was so amazing! I think mom and dad loved it even more than the kids! My daughter preciously visited with her Guides group and loved 'showing' it to us. The tour was informative, fascinating and we made life long memories. Well worth a visit!
