Vast. Modern. Attached to a huge Aeon Mall and surrounded by hotels and shops, a food court, many restaurants and a pedestrian mall. There is nothing old or quaint about this station, it knows how to welcome tourists.

Nice and modern train/bus station in the center of Asahikawa. All the signs are in Japanese and English. Helpful staff!
No shops in this building but next door is a big mall where you can wait if necessary and have a cup of (Starbucks) coffee.
