Perched in a wild, remote landscape, Shobak Castle wins over even the most castle-weary, despite being less complete than its sister fortification at Karak. Formerly called Mons Realis (the Royal Mountain), it was built by the Crusader king Baldwin...more

For about JD15 you can get a professional guide by the gate - a historian who took part of the excavation of the castle - explains every nook and cranny. A must for everyone who’s interested in the crusaders.

Wow you can definitely see a long ways from this castle, and that of course is why it was built where it was. It is not handicapped accessible and if you are in a tour with a big bus, you will have to walk from...More

This location is well preserved and tourists have the opportunity to explore the site thoroughly. The surrounding hills show the changing landscape. It is a beautiful location.

Our tour guide, Hassan (Al-Thuraya Travel) suggested we visit this castle rather than the usual Karak (Kerak) Castle. We were glad he made the suggestion. What’s left of Shobak (Shoubak/Shawbak) Castle is amazing and it’s history is fascinating. We wandered around the ruins for almost...More

As a couple reviewers stated, this is still jaw dropping for the castle or ruin-weary tourist. Roman ruins are mostly the same layout--those Roman were darn consistent, but this was a fabulous tangle of stones, pathways and number ten views of the local area.

Driving south from Amman is a very nice stop on your way to Petra. The shobak castle is a crusader castle that is partially restored. It is well worth an hour to hike around the castle which is from the 1100"s. It was not crowded...More

We had hired a guide for 10JD. He provided a comprehensive historical context especially how Saladin forced the surrender. The best part was the tunnel. He guided us to this 30 minutes perilous journey through the dark passageway eventually landing at the other side of...More

The Castle will take a day to get to. Jordan is a great place and may places to see. If you are on an organised tour stick with their itinerary if yo are free and in the Petra area visit the castle.

We arranged our visit through the Herz agency at our hotel. They provided a driver, so I didn't pay much attention to the signage but it seemed very clear. The road is quite good and there is plenty of parking. Definitely... More
