The Treasury is one of the Crown Jewels of Petra. It emerges at the end of the Suq - which is the long entrance to the lost city of Petra. See my comments about Petra. If you have the opportunity to visit Petra - do...More

What a view when you get to the end of the Siq. One can only imagine what people from other times and other places felt.

From Aqaba, a fascinating geological ride takes one past mountains showing tracery of old lava rivulets, across the desert, valleys and canyons, climbing up thru smaller towns to the city of Petra. In itself, Petra has a bustling Main Street, lined with shops, souvenirs, and...More

Amazing architecture and history. Seen as an early part of the guided tour round Petra. Probably the first place to take a rest for the long day.

After walking down the Siq to get to Petra proper you get a glimpse of the building near the end. After all these years with time taking its toll, this place is still so impressive. Watch out for the hackers looking to sell you something...More

As one exits Petra's Siq is treated to a stunning reveal of the iconic Treasury. It is truly a sight to behold. It is stunningly detailed so amazing to think that something this beautiful has survived immaculately to this day!

superpear, I cannot provide you with a trail map, but the trail uphill to the treasury viewpoint from above starts right after Palace tomb. It's called al-Khubtah rail and from experience of previous travelers it takes... More

Hello dear fellow travelers, I am planning to visit Petra in November. While I have found detailed info regarding access to the view of Treasury from above via the al-Khubtha trail starting from the royal tombs, I also came to know that there is another viewpoint accessible via the Madras trail which is more difficult and guide is recommended. My question is the following: if the second view point is easily accessible (well marked) from the High Place of Sacrifice and if it is doable without a guide. How long will it approximately take for a hike from the High place to the view of treasury from above and back? I am a 24 year old and would like to do it on my own to keep the cost low. Any information will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Indra P.S- I am quite new to such posting activities, hence pardon me if anything is against the rules of the forum.

I have only done a guided trip where we camped in the desert behind Petra and then entered through the city's back door, avoiding the crowds and having to do only downhill from then on. The trail is not super well marked but... More

You can arrange camel rides locally. However I would strongly recommend against it. The sites worth seeing can only be reached by climbing stairs, which the camels can't do, so you'll be seeing the same area you would see by... More
