we reached petra y 4 in the afternoon. after checking into our hotel we headed for our petra by night tour (Starts at 7). we walked in moonlight, guided by hundreds of candles that lit the path. we walked through the siq to the treasury...More

Petra by night wasn't as impressive as I imagined it to be. There was so much noise and constant flashes made it hard to concentrate on the view of candles which was otherwise very nice.

Planned for months to visit Petra by night + nice weather (compare to daytime), look peaceful, listening to the folk music with complimentary local hot tea - almost 4 km round-trip walking for not so impressive folk song, cannot see anything along the walking route

Petra by night is not so good excursion, it's just a long and very long walk inside the Petra city through siq, with lit candles on the sides of the path, after walking so much we reached Petra treasury, which was lit with 100 more...More

Met our guide at dusk, and walked along in a continual throng of people for about 30 mins down the narrow path to the main entrance. Picturesque candle lit route, opened out with a large expanse of sitting area, on hard rocks. If you want...More

It's true that the candles along the walkway and at the Treasury are very pretty, but 17 dinar for a ticket is not remotely worth it. The "performance" is less than 30 minutes & an obvious tourist scam. A guy plays the flute for 10-15...More

We were unprepared for the walk to Petra by night, so give yourself time to walk there...about 30 minutes. Sitting on the ground waiting was not comfortable so we ended up standing. It was pretty with just candles. There were 2 songs and a little...More

Don't miss Petra Night tour! It was almost a spiritual experience! Walking through the dark passageways lit by candles was so different than a day time visit. You can almost feel what it must have been like thousands of years ago. The authentic music was...More

The walk down the Siq was nicely lit up and the Treasury looked fantastic by candle light. Sitting down to listen to the tale and the long musical instrument was a little too long didn't float my boat though but that's just me.

Petra by Night is a great experience if you want to maximize your time at Petra and have little time. It is not quite for the budget traveller as ticket prices are 18 JD / person. If you are on a tight timeline, you should...More

Once inside Petra during the day time, can I stay inside until the 'Petra by Night' show begins in the night? Or am I required to exit the sight after the sunset and then enter all the way again?!! I will have purchased the ticket for the show before entering in the day time.. in case only the ticket holders are allowed to stay inside..?

I apologize for the late response but you will certainly have to exit and pay to return. They are two separate events that both require payment to enter.

Can you purchase your ticket at the Petra Visitor Center just before the tour? I have the option of purchasing through Viator, but it is more expensive. I have read there are unlimited tickets and can be purchased at the Visitor Center just prior to entering. What do you suggest. Thanks!

Yes, you can purchase just before, BUT what a tacky show. You will see nothing of Petra either on the walk in (in the dark over uneven, rough and sandy surfaces - 1.5 km). The Treasury will be lit only with candles placed... More

My sister and I are visiting Petra in mid-October and will be seeing the site both in the day and at night. I would like to know the distance between the Treasury and the closest important structure. Are there good paths for seniors, that's us, to walk comfortably? As for the night show, I was wondering whether there is any seating in the area where the candles are lit up as squatting on the floor wouldn't be easy. Also, I'm afraid of the desert ants that can sting you badly. And, how long does it take to cover the entire length of the Siq from the entrance? I would be glad if someone can answer these queries. Thanks

From the entrance to siq takes more or less half an hour by walk (one way). However, you can opt to ride via horse, donky or camel but with extra fee, and I guess very expensive. And yes, just stay at the usual pathway which... More
