Our group of 10 couples from the Prinsendam first assembled next to the ruins of some shops that once supported the Durres Amphitheatre that use to be outside of the town. Our walk up the street paved with river rock to the ticket booth was a bit of a challenge for our seniors worried about their balance, hips and knees.... More

This is a spectacular place. Does not matter what the weather is like; no visitor should miss it. Very impressive.

Unfortunately we were able to get a bird's eye view of the exposed part of the amphitheatre from the point of arrival and it looked like another very nice site to explore. However on further investigation we were unable to explore it fully because the steps without banisters and the uneven and moist underground passages without means of holding onto... More

It costs 400 leke, so not expensive. There is nothing to note other than the scale, which was capable of holding at least 15000 people. Don't rush to go.

The amphitheater is a wonderful structure in the middle of the City which is not well preserved and wished the local government did something to preserve it better. Worth visiting in town. There are local guides that will give an explanation on site.

The amphitheatre is beautiful, the romans ruins are very often wonders. But, I feel this very weird to pay the entrance while you can see the whole thing from all around for free...?

Durres has many archeologic attractions and the amphitheater is one of this. It is well preserved and tourists would love it. It is located near the center of the town.

The amphitheatre itself is not particularly spectacular compared to others we have visited. However, go down to the galleries below which are much more interesting. In particular check out the remains of the Byzantine chapel which has 6th century frescoes of angels and archangels. These are the only wall mosaics found in Albania.
