A nice museum, not very big, but sufficient to entertain you for half a day. There is a fun educational treasure hunt for children. And every season an appropriate activity: this time baking speculaas dolls. The best part was the bread show!
In the restaurant is plenty and tasty choice of cakes and pancakes at a reasonable price.

All employees were friendly and the start was clear and pleasant. We got 2 treasure hunts.. for our children (8 and 10) both fun to do. We could see everywhere what the bakery world used to look like and the Kids were also amazed.
In between baking the cookies (and we a delicious drink with pastries) across the street and a very nice (really laughed .. the children and us) by a man who really told with passion. Interactive and the Kids were mega excited

Very nice. Bake a cookie yourself. A fun treasure hunt through the museum. Learned a lot. The highlight for us was the baker who gave a performance!! What energy, what humour. Delicious for both adults and children.
The Hattemse speculaas cake is an absolute must!!

Very nice 'bread show', especially for children over 6 years old who understand the jokes. Baking cookies is also fun. Other than that, the museum doesn't offer much, those two things mentioned earlier are really what you go for.

My guest found the lifelike dolls scary and the visit threatened to be a disappointment. But she was allowed to help the baker during the performance. This experience, making an Easter bunny and the delicious poffertjes, made it an unforgettable experience!

Treasure hunt, bake your own cookies and the fabulous show “how to make your own bread animals”. And the museum of course, finish with tradition dutch poffertjes!

We took the bus #203 from the Zwolle railway station, within 15 minutes we arrived at the stop Hattem Centrum. From the very first moment we enjoyed the great mediëval atmosphere in the village. The very interesssting Dutch Bakery Museum is located at the edge, almost hidden in a small street. It looks small but after entering you will be overwhelmed how many rooms and levels this museum has, incredible! It's a kind of trip into history when baking started to become popular due to the growing population. You will see a lot of old machines and devises, tools and huge puppets in original clothing, pretty nostalgic. When you have reached the lowest part of the museum, the path goes under the road and finally you will arrive at the other side of the museum. There you can enjoy a range of nice baking items in the small restaurant. Highly recommended and not to be missed if you intend to visit Hattem, one the Hanze villages.

We were there on a rainy Easter Monday. So, we expected it to be busy. But we had no idea of how much people the museum can handle. Well, the spaces are quite narrow, and in many they were taken up by demos and kids making cookies. It was near impossible to manouver, and with the cookie baking unclear how long one had to wait for a spot.
I can imagine this being a nice place to visit when less crowded. As it was, we felt a bit cheated to have paid the full entrance prize. And I heard many others comment it was too busy to bake a cookie, yet overheard a lady from the staff it wasn't so busy the place was bursting YET.
I think it would have been more honest to work with time slots and limit the visitor numbers on such busy days. We may have been disappointed to be turned away, but not as disappointed as we were to pay for entrance and not being able to enjoy our visit.
