Before heading here, I had mixed reviews between that this mountain is beautiful to others claiming it was "just a mountain." It is neither of these. The mountain is vast and enormous. A worthwhile hiking experience. Take your time to do research into the trails....More

I came to spend a night on the mountain, but ended up staying for four days. And I had a great guide. The popular trailheads start in Chitakale (Boma Path) and Likhabula (Skyline (Chambe Plateau) Path or Lichenya Path or Chapaluka Path). Chitakale is easier...More

Beautiful views and really fun climbing. Extremely steep, but there's still no need for any technical climbing gear. Also very affordable compared to other treks in Africa, and the guide was top quality. The hut where we slept was modest but still very sufficient. Highly...More

The place is ideal for serious trekkers and also for Nature Recliners. It accommodates the adventurous campers, backpackers and also the luxury travelers. We did a short hike to a water fall and was very scenic. Lots of birds and flowers for the keen observers.

We went up to Chambe hut (approximately a hike of 3 hours) in about 5/6 hours. A tough climb up but amazing views. After 3 hours we reached the plateau, this was great. Lovely views and surroundings. We slept at Chambe hut, easy, simple but...More

With a local guide (the daily fee of a guide is $ 25) we did two tours, not hard and which I highly recommend. The first to the plantations of tea ‘Lujeri’ (just south of Mount Mulanje). Spectacular!! (The path is easy and runs through...More

Probably one of the most beautiful natural sites in the world. The mountain dooms up as you drive in from Blantyre, Thyolo or Palombe. All the way around there are beautiful sights of the mountain.

How difficult is the Trek ? What level of fitness is required ?

Not very difficult. Good shoes are needed but it's not difficult
We are two hikers hoping to keep costs low by finding other hikers to join. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find and join other groups? Is there a hostel or cheap place to stay where hikers would pass through? Can we just wait at the park office? Also, we plan to hike next week (December 14, 2016). Is it too late to hike around (and/or summit)?

There's honestly not much cost involved - the fee for a tour guide is really reasonable, as are cost of staying at the huts (and I think it was per person). The whole atmosphere there is very loose and casual, and rates are... More

The best place to stay at the bottom of the mountain is Mulanje motel, and over the mountain is CCAP hut! Near to the peak and natural swimming pool. Contact Juma a professional experienced and Tour guide to help you
