First of the Waterfall is open and not dry. We read the review that mentioned that. We arrived to Rio verde and stayed there, then drove the next day to see cascada de Tamul. The best place to stay would probably be Tamasopo. When you arrive at the location, there will be three areas where you can see the waterfall. There will be a guide offering services at each site. The fist one you take a small hike down to see the top of the waterfall, which is very nice. You do have the chance to go down some stairs and see the bottom as well. The second stop will take you to an open area, you will park by the street on the side and hike down about 1 km. To the river where you will board a boat and row upriver to the waterfall and back. The third one is the one I recommended doing if you are only doing one. It takes you down to “la Morena”. You park right in front of the river. There you can change in the dressing rooms for a small fee and purchase any last minute things you might need. Such as bathing suits, shorts, cellphone protectors… there you will board the boat and row to the waterfall. This last stop is the friendliest for children and elderly, as well as anybody who cannot walk easily. The trip upriver is not difficult at all. We had people from 6 to 43, total of 8 people on the canoe. It went very well. When we arrived at the waterfall, you have the opportunity to take pictures from a safe distance. It was a beautiful experience, the views, nature and just everything was beautiful. Everyone in our group loved it. Will definitely put this on our must return list. It’s best to get there around 10 am, so the experience and eat in Tamasopo. It’s beautiful and they have many places you can see. The trip cost us 1,600 pesos for 6 people. There were two other people with us. The boat owner and guide. Do it , it will be one of the best experiences for sure.

We came in April of 2021 and as our guide told us they damed the river that fed these falls to build a lake. So this famous waterfall is gone and they need to remove it from all marketing. Locals and the guides are very upset over the destruction of one of the areas greatest waterfall.
