We came in April of 2021 and as our guide told us they damed the river that fed these falls to build a lake. So this famous waterfall is gone and they need to remove it from all marketing. Locals and the guides are very upset over the destruction of one of the areas greatest waterfall.

We stayed in Ciudad Valles and took taxi to Tamul waterfall (cannot say how much it would cost you as we were visiting few attractions on that day). You need stop at the arch and get a guide (we found a father and son for 500 pesos but official rate is 600 pesos). They provide you with life jackets, paddles and a boat. You will need to drive few more kilometers to the boat and than the fun begin :) If you do not want too, you do not really need to paddle. Gorgeous turquoise water! Beautiful canyon! We saw many colorful butterflies and few birds. The waterfall is magnificent!!! You can swim your way back in the water as current is strong enough to carry you without much effort.
Must see if you enjoy nature!!!!!!!

While most visitors experience Tamul waterfall from the river below via canoes at Embarcadero La Morena, I strongly recommend also viewing them from above. You can get to the bottom taking some steep ladders, or rappel down next to the fall. This gets you closer to the waterfall than the canoes, but absolutely NO getting in the river below at this point. You can however swim in certain areas at the top. Going through the town of El Naranjito a very rough dirt road will get you to the top of the falls. We picked up a local guide at the entrance to the town who made sure we stayed safe.

Highly rated and much-visited waterfall worth the trip. The turquoise water and power of the horsetail-drop falls make it worth the difficulty of the trip. The biggest turnoff that could bother some people is the aggressive "guides" or boatmen who are necessary to ferry you to the drop. I realize everyone has to make a living, but these guys are pushy and rude. If you want to see the head of the falls and walk down (VERY strenuous and difficult) they won't tell you how to get there. Hint - turn right just before you encounter those jackals and follow the dirt road. Eventually you will come to a gate and a guy who collects a few pesos.
There are a couple of very humble "hotels" where one could spend the night, if one's requirements are not too demanding. There is also a campground in town. It is for tenters or truck-camper or Class C boondockers only. Don't even try this road in a Class A.
A real jewel of a hotel is about halfway from the turnoff from the highway from Cd. Valles. You cannot miss it - the owner placed big, brightly painted topes by the entrance. There is a lake and wonderful restaurant on the left and a luxury cabin-hotel with pool and individual cabins on the right.

The most impressive waterfall I've ever seen! You only arrive there by boat, rowing, which is an amazing experience! The water is completely blue and you can come back swimming by the river! Incredible!

It is an okay attraction. There are better things to see due to the distance that one gets to enjoy the waterfall. It was an hour paddling up the river in these home made wooden boats that fit about 20 people in them. Fun experience with the family but the attraction is or was at that time overcrowded. We also did not have good luck as there was a drought going on and the falls had medium water going down it. On the way back we stopped half way from the put in in where there were many small shops that offered food. That was a same as it took away from the beauty.
Go during the slow season and also make sure there is water going down the falls.
Rappelling down the falls would be a much better attraction for the Tamul falls.

The water looked beautiful and there’s a tour that cost 150 pesos per person (IF YOU WAIT AND GO WITH OTHERS) or you can rent the boat that is 1000 pesos... I recommend not taking the phone with you because all you will do is be in the water 💦🚤

Cascades de Tamul; which is a waterfall that you have to paddle to from a small village called Morena, about 20-30 kms north of Aquisimon. Here, for between 400 (shared) and 600 pesos (alone); the guide will take you in his canoe (4km) (you paddle too) to the magnificent water falls. The water of the river is turquoise in color (from limestone and minerals in the water), and there are many natural waterfalls along the way. There are a lot of natural springs along the way, where water gushes out of the ground. Clean, clear and fresh water. Part of the way there are some small rapids, where you have to hike a short distance overland while the guide "walks" the canoe over the rapids and meets you upstream.
The waterfalls are worth the view, and you can jump/swim off a large boulder "island" near the foot of the falls. You cannot get close to the falls by river because of the rapids. On the way back, you can swim downstream, or canoe. Along the way, there is a stop at a large cavern which is a natural swimming hole, which is also very nice, There are vendors selling snacks here and that is what makes this a refreshing break.
Wonderful place to visit; well worth it. Will take you 3-4hrs easily, so come in the morning or early afternoon, so you are done before it gets dark. All paddles and lifejackets are provided. Bring water socks if you plan to get into the water.

One of the most beautiful places we've been! Clear blue waters and the waterfall is beautiful. Make sure the tour takes you to the cenote for a swim. It's like a relaxation pool right in the middle of a cave!

Cual Seria lo mas conveniente volando de Tijuana? Y que meses son Los mejores para visitar Este bello estado
Written 11 May 2020

You'll take a flight to either Tampico or San Luis Potosi via Mexico City. From there you can drive to Ciudad Valles in the state of San Luis Potosi, or if not comfortable with driving you can purchase an all inclusive tour package. Ciudad Valles will be your hub from which to explore the Huasteca Potosina region.
