No idea why people should see this... there is not much more to see around, but this place definitely is not something to stop for. Rather go to see the fortress San Antonio.

If you're at the plaza de armas you'll see it. Inside is a normal church nothing fancy, nothing spectacular. Just a very very normal - not even beautiful- church

On an island with World Heritage Churches, the Cathedral of St Carlos of Ancud is modest in scale and impression. There is more interior woodwork than normal for a Catholic church, a local theme. The cathedral is on the main plaza.

After seeing so many of these old beautiful churches this one didn't do it for me. The other ones had so much more character.

We stopped in Ancud on a drive down to Castro. It was Sunday and everything was closed, so we decided to have a look in the cathedral.
I wasn’t particularly impressed

It is interesting to visit and learn about the history of this place. Inside they have pictures of how huge this building was before the earthquake that destroyed it. Now it is a very simple design, but still worth taking a look.

It is unusual that catholic cathedrals, churches and chapels are closed. It was raining and sitting and laying on the steps were numerous backpackers and dogs gathered for protection from the elements. I liked the cathedral from the outside.

A very modern cathedral in the centre of Ancud. We were there on a Sunday and there wasn't much to do as the museum and market were closed, so spent a few minutes looking in here.

Like many churches we'd visit later, this one has a typical structure, and interesting interior. However, the tower (2013) and interior look modern.

While killing time in Ancud, Chiloe, we popped into the Catedral de Ancud. Destroyed by earthquake in 1960, its presentation of the devastation was moving and very well done. The rebuild has clearly taken into account the lessons learned all those years ago.

I attended Mass here, conducted by the local bishop. The congregation were friendly and the Bishop is a great preacher!
