Unlike the similar sites of Chichen itza and Tulum, you can view these ruins on a personal guided tour with no-one else around! We had a wonderful English speaking guide who was extremely knowledgeable, and as a result we spent 2 1/2 hours touring the ruins with our guide and we didn't see another person, let alone have to fight off the thousands of other tourists! We learned so much and were able to have all our questions answered - what a wonderful experience, and well worth a visit. Also worth a try is the authentic Mexican restaurant on the road to the ruins. It is just an open, wall less structure with an outside loo, an open kitchen and only 3 tables, so look carefully or you'll miss it!

We spent a week in Acapulco and visited the Tehuacalco ruins. The ruins was my favorite part of the trip. Our English speaking tour guide Roberto Alarcon (found on tripadvisor) escorted us to the mountain side. Roberto was extremely knowledgeable about the ruins and made our walk-through like living the real thing. His descriptions of the ruins and their history were vivid and insightful. The history is extremely captivating and the ruins themselves, beautiful. The surrounding scenery and mountains are breathtaking. A must see visiting in nearby areas!

An excellent job by our tour guide Sebastian Hernandez and the site guide Poly. We were entertained and educated for over 2 hours in the site and felt like we had been there only 30 minutes. The time passed so quickly and hearing about the site from a man who had played in the area for years before it was discovered was fascinating.
Gracias Sebastian!

My sister and I went to Acapulco in January, 2015. Our tour guide, Angel Flores (angelinacapulco@gmail.com, Mexican phone no. 044-744-138-0593) and his nephew, George Flores, took us to Tehuacalco which is about 1 1/2 hours from Acapulco on the toll freeway. At the second toll station from Acapulco we saw the only evidence of violence in the state of Guerro. There was a heavy police presence there as apparently at one point in time the demonstrating students had taken over that toll booth. Graffiti was everywhere. At the ruins we had a very informative personal guide who spoke only Spanish so George did the translation. it was a very well preserved archeological site and the interpretative centre was well presented. However, there were lots of steps hewn into the rocks and no guard rails so it's not an excursion for those with mobility issues. Afterwards we went to the local city of 25,000 people, Tierra Colorada, and experienced the real Mexico! Five of us had a full course dinner including soft drinks for $230 pesos (all together!) and I bought four genuine leather belts for $360 pesos all together.
I would highly recommend this tour but pack a lunch, it is not safe to eat in the city. Also, go early as the heat is unbearable in the middle of the day.

We were just about the only people there, which meant we had an exceptional tour and the opportunity to hear a great deal of history from our guides. It was a beautiful place to visit, made for some great pictures and memories! Note - take a sweat towel, umbrella, or both. It's warm up there.

If you have time to go out to this site you should. We went out with our very great driver Sebastian Hernandez, acapulcoforall.com. We meant Eva , our guide to the park and learned some wonderful facts about some of the history of Mexico. She was very nice and knew her facts very well.

My family and I took a guided tour from Acapulco. Our guide Sebastian Hernandez was very informative - he knows the history of this place, but what was most important - he told the history the way our 7 year old son understood. Sebastian was showing us all little details of local culture, terrain and vegetation... to show us how locals now and back in times were connected to the land... from astrology thru history to the ants and lime trees - stories that Sebastian was telling us were fun and full of details. Thank you Sebastian for making our day at this archaeological ruins great and unforgettable! Also he was making sure we had plenty of shade (he provided umbrellas) and water. We just couldn’t ask for better guide.

We had a tour guide take us here from our cruise ship. Besides the fact that it would have been hard to access without transportation, it really needed the interpretive assistance of the guide. With the guide we learned quite a bit about the culture and history of the people who had lived there.

I always want to see the road less travelled when we visit a city or country and the Tehuacalco site was certainly that. We were the only visitors to the site at the time so had a very personal tour and able to take our time. This is a relatively new discovery and very interesting to hear the history and wander through the site. Make sure you take some water and other preparations for the heat. There is a lot of uphill hiking involved but definitely worth it if you are able.
Stopped for lunch in Tierra Colorada - freshly made tacos and cold beer. Wonderful after the hot trek at the ruins.
Our visit date was December 2015

Hi there,
I was surprised to read your visit at the archeological zone near Acapulco.
How long time did it took for you to travel out there ? Where did you started from ?
During my stay in Mexico and Canada I was alone and travelled into several regions and provinces, without guided tours or any helps. All together it took 2 month approx. to make my travel(s).
Have you been in Monte Alban or Uxmal or other culture/history areas in Mexico ?
I am very captivated by history as well, so my next target(s) in Mexico may be Uxmal, Chichen itza and Tulum.
Have you been there too ?
/Kenneth
