We sort of stumbled into this place, and figured why not check it out. Inside there is everything you'd even want to know about the instrument, and some of the accomplished players of it. There is a section showing how they are constructed, and a studio where some friendly musicians play for you and even give you a quick lesson. Fun time well spent.

Next to the square with the same name. Is a really small local museum but very interesting.

We also saw some teachers playing the marimba and it was pretty nice!

This museum is free by entrance and you can spend anything between 10 minutes to an hour there. Its interesting to see the evolution of the marimba, though it might lack some information and the photos of the local musicians. A free marimba session is offered at the end of your visit.

This very small museum is dedicated to the history and music of the marimba. They have a wonderful historical collection of marimbas from the earliest, rustic instruments to the most modern, intricately designed marimbas. The museum also showcases the history of marimba musicians through a series of photographs. One of the curators gave us a guided tour and was very knowledgeable about the topic. They have a studio there and on-site teachers who provide marimba lessons. They gave us a demonstration and we bought a few CDs. Definitely worth the time.

We did find the concert on the loud side, but not as bad as another reviewer had indicated. It was one of the most fun events we did on our whole trip, singing along and sharing old traditional Mexican and international songs. Everybody smiling and singing, even my monolingual English-speaking husband, as some songs were known in English as well. We gained a tremendous respect for the intricacy of the marimba, and the talent of the players who could hold two sticks in each hand and play four notes simultaneously. Wide range of marimbas on display; photo displays taught us a lot about a few outstandingly famous marimba players.

My boyfriend's family just happened to know the owners of this place, so we traveled here to learn the history of this instrument as well as discover the process of how it is created. It's a great way to learn about Chiapas and its people.

The band gave us a private concert and let us step behind the marimba to try our skills!
The museum itself if quite small but if you love music, you will appreciate how complex playing this instrument actually is!

This is a very informative and very affordable museum which is certainly worth visiting. However, you will be offered a free (tips only) marimba concert in one of the museum smaller rooms. This event will most probably be the loudest musical event of your entire life. Your ear drums might be permanently damaged. Beware! - I am sure that the three performers are half-deaf and are unaware of what they damage they are causing.
