The temple is a grand one, albeit old. The best part of visiting the temple was actually the trip going from the sunrise observation spot to the temple, via horse carts, passing by some small temples where the carts would be stopped, for the tourists to take photos.

Thatbyinnyu is the highest temple in Bagan, built of two white-coloured boxy storeys, each with three diminishing terraces rimmed with spires and leading to a gold-tipped sikhara which is 207ft high. Its monumental size and the looming height makes it a classic example of Bagan’s middle period. This temple was built in 1144 by Alaungsithu, and has terraces encircled by indentations for 539 Jataka stories.
In the vicinity of the temple is old city walls. There are trinket shops all around the temple. Particularly impressive were masks and colourful umbrellas.

I like this place the most in Bagan. Due to the height, it can be seen everywhere. It is beautiful both in day time and night time.

This was yet another major temple that was on my list of must see locations and it really can't be missed visually or otherwise. Thatbyinnyu is the biggest temple in all of Bagan and virtually towers above the trees and plains. It can be seen from many of the nearby areas and is a truly magnificent structure. You can also walk around the inside of the temple where there are a number of seated Buddhas along the walls.
Very beautiful temple though cool tops. The main colorization of this temple is a weathering white and black, yet there are still everlasting golden prangs protruding from the perimeter of the top plus the main prang which glitters in gold.
In short, a big temple located in Old Bagan that everyone must see. Probably my favorite temples among the entire town aside from Ananda Temple.
* If you're staying in New Bagan, it be reached by about a twenty minute bike ride. Or, you can just see it along with viewing the other temples in the area via horse and cart.

There are so many temples you can't regard them all as excellent, but you feel unfair saying just 'very good' sometimes. Just take the whole of Bagan as being a world wonder. At 61 metres, it is regarded as the tallest temple in Bagan, another very impressive sight.

It is must place to visit if you are in Bagan, Myanmar.
It is not far from the famous Ananda temple. Then Nat Hlaung Monastery and Shwegu Gyi Temple is very closely located near of this .This structure of imposing majesty towers over other temples in the vicinity. The usual Buddha sculptures and some remains of wall paintings but it nice looking. With elaborately decorated stupas on all corners of this double storeyed temple, it has been built to signify the omniscience of Lord Buddha. The elevation literally inspires one to rise above the mundane and attain divinity. Very interesting place and can access horse crafts. It has a very steep staircase and was a popular sunrise and sunset spot until 2016, when the government banned climbing the pagoda for its preservation. There are people inside who will try to sell you things as in most places in Bagan (and Myanmar for that matter). It is a highest temple in the Bagan area. Worth a visit.

I liked this temple very much! It is a monumental white stucco structure located in old Bagan. This temple is inside the Bagan wall and you can see from many directions as it is tallest in Bagan. The area is sandy. It is really nice to walk around it. Inside, as usual, you have to remove your shoes and socks. There is not really much to see. The splendid aspects are outside. At this time, the tower is under restoration and you cannot appreciate it.

It is easy to find by horse cart, walking, or driver.

At 201 feet, Thatbyinnyu is the tallest temple in Bagan, however nothing in particular stood out for me about this temple, and I preferred Gawdawpalin.

I counted 20 Buddhas inside, but it felt smaller than Gawdawpalin, which only had 10. It was also far busier with tourists.

Tallest temple in Bagan in white color, aged, only have 1 corridor, can not climb. Since you only have 1 corridor, not much to see and to do here after you completely walk around the corridor. But close to this temple, there is Shwe Gyu Gyi Temple of which you can climb and see Thatbyinnyu.

Sellers are quite agressive here, particularly kids sellers.
