It was unusual to see burial in the Cave or hanging outside the Cave on the edge of cliff. It was amazing to visit.

The caves are not particularly attractive, while the "tribune" containing the statues of the dead parents is stunning

easy to get there and location is priceless. Changed somewhat in the last 20years but still has an authentic feel.

If you are in Toraja country the caves is a must. Part of a very long tradition where animism still is used, slightly mixed with Protestantism and other religions. This is why makes the Toranjas so special, and interesting.

While we prefer more remote and less touristy locations, a visit to Tana Toraja should include a stop at Londa Burial Caves. The wooden effigies (tau-tau) look down on you as you arrive. There are two natural caves to be explored. You can either rent a lantern, or bring along your own flashlight to explore.

Amazingly interesting culture of traditional Toraja burial site near Rantepao. Bodies of passed away people were laid on likestone cave porches, sometimes put in the coffins first. After a while, manequins were put in the burial site to memorize the honourable family member who had been buried here.

Skulls outside the cave says a lot about what to expect inside. Its full of skulls perched neatly on ledges and coffins stacked on top of each other. It's pitch black inside so first off, make sure you are brave enough to be in a cave full of skulls (what you feel now when you're reading this and how you... More

This place is one of the must-to-visit places in Toraja. You will experience something mystical yet rich of culture sense.
