Sulawesi is a really intresting place especially for the Toraja village& for their cultural heritage, the celebration of the deaths. They are catholic, but the funerals they do is still remains as in ancestral times. Very intresting place. Not jut the place where they live, but their believes especially.

Tana Toraja in Sulawesi is an incredible area for its culture and nature,we saw the unique customs and ancient tradition when visiting this region recently(August of year 2023) such as: the funeral and thanksgiving ceremony of a new traditional house, traditional villages, traditional graveyards and saw the breathaking view of paddyfield terraces and mountains, etc.
We had a really memorable and fantastic tour during our trip with a very reliable tour guide named Mr.Arru who was born and grew up in this beautiful region.
He was very helpful and flexible to arrange a wonderful trip with providing a great tour service with a reasonable tour price.
Highly recommend Tana Toraja as an area that is very worthy to visit indonesia due to its amazing culture and it is supported by stunning views.

We had a great Torajan guide Otto (who was organised for us via Dodo Mursalim), both were excellent contacts and I can highly recommend them.
Otto 62 812-4142-468 (WhatsApp)
Dodo 62 812-4129-913 (WhatsApp)
We were fortunate to attend the funeral ceremony when the coffin was being carried up (an incredible sight to see). Also went to the animal market, the various cave burial sites, ate at some excellent restaurants, and visited RemmangRemmang (karst mountains) and LeangLeang (ancient cave art). All in all, an excellent insight into the uniqueness of Sulewesi.

When we visited Toraja on March of 2023 and exploring toraja cultural trip by using scooter and trekking with a very trusted and great guide Mr.Arru(WhatsApp(mobile +6285299235999,both the trips were fantastic and very memorable.
We saw all the unique graves with tau-tau,authentic toraja traditional house, lovely countryside, stunning views of paddyfield terraces, valley, mountains and including seeing the funeral ceremony and a new traditional house ceremony. but we didn't see the ma'nene ritual because it is held in the middle of august to september every year or once in 3 years and 5 years depending on family decision in according to our guide Mr.Arru.
What we have seen in Toraja was our highlight tour in this area.

We have seen everything in this region like Toraja culture and nature very well when visiting Tana toraja in the end of february until the beginning of march 2023.We saw all the traditional tombs of Toraja people with tau-tau,many traditional villages with typical toraja houses and rice barns and we didn't miss viewing the funeral ceremony and a new traditional house ceremony as well.
Tana Toraja also had stunning views of paddyfield terraces, their countryside, mountains and valleys surrounded by the bamboo trees, coffee and cacao plantations.
The culture and nature in this area is really incredible, not inferior to Bali.
During our 4 days exploring Tana toraja with a great guide Mr.Arru we defenitely enjoyed our trip with him such as a great and very memorable experience because of an excellent tour service from our guide Mr.Arru as a very knowledgeable and professional guide.he was also very friendly and helpful like other toraja people were very tolerant and welcoming.
Feel free to contact Mr.Arru on his Whatsapp(mobile)+6285299235999 and Email:arrutoraja12@gmail.com

Tana Toraja is one the best area for the culture trip in Indonesia beside it has stunning views of paddyfield terraces, mountains, countryside and torajan people are very tolerant and really welcoming.
The very unique culture and customs of the Toraja people are mostly closely related to death such as:various of the traditional graveyards, the death rituals, the monoliths, statues of the dead and also toraja people still keep the dead body in the house.
Toraja people also have beautiful traditional houses and traditional clothes can be seen in every traditional ceremony and village.
My friend and I have traveled to this region at the beginning of february and exploring toraja 5 days trip,3 days a cultural tour and 2 days trekking adventure and spent 1 night in the village with the locals.
We had a really memorable trip and very satisfying with a very great and trusted guide Mr.Arru who provided us an excellent tour service and conducted a professional tour.

Pak Ucok is my driver and also guide in Toraja. He is super caring guide and has a lot of story to tell. You could contact Rosalina Homestay in Rantepao Toraja to reach him. Better to bring rupiah from Makassar, less option for money changer in Toraja

Bonjour
merci d'avance!
Hi,
We go this summer 3 weeks in Bali and plan to spend 1-2 days in Tana Toraja especially to discover the funeral ceremonies.
We would leave from Bali and go to Makassar go and back just to see that place.
Could you confirm that the trip desserves it just to sthat place ?
are we sure to see some ceremonies and be inspired by culture or its just a fake stuffs for tourists ?
which location you recommend to see there ?
thanks !

Drove from the capital to Toraja - took around 6-7 hours. Fly in is maybe possible now, but was not an option 1 yr ago. The air strip is present but as far as understood not actively used.

Hi, I am planning to go to the Land of Toraja this summer with three friends and we would like to have a guide, is there an organism you would advise us ? How did you find yours ? I heard there were many scams.
Thank you so much in advance,

Plenty of guides arround and you will have no issues to organise when over there. So no need to di this upfront yr arrival. You will be able to compare when at location, which is good for your wallet anyway. Enjoy Toraga, like we did 👍

We plan to arrive in Makassar from Flores in the afternoon of May 15, 2017. Do you recommend going to the bus terminal to take the evening bus or staying overnight in Makassar and taking the morning bus? We plan to stay 3 full days, is that sufficient time? Will we get to see a funeral procession in May? Also I've read that some hotels were noisy, do people recommend a homestay or hotel in rantepao? My husband and I both like good beds, not too hard or soft so wondering if homestay beds would work.Want to return to Makassar on Friday, has anyone taken the plane, if so, are they safe? Any names of guides in the area are welcomed too.
Thanks so much for advice and information,
Durga

I would head to Rantepao right away, not stay in Makassar. 3 days are OK, we stayed 4 full days and it was just the right amount.
for a private guide, send me a PM.
The accommodation in Rantepao is sketchy, we stayed at Rosalinas, it was noisy, but good beds and the owner is a former guide, so he was able to advise us on many sights etc.
